This individual will be involved with chemical reactions, bulk chemical transfer and packaging, hazardous waste management, and record keeping.
DUTIES:
• Under the direction of the Specialties Chemical Manufacturing Manager, follow standard operating procedures for safety, workplace maintenance, and chemical processing.
• Setup, execute, monitor, cleanup, and document 5-50 kg - scale chemical reactions.
• Strictly adhere to safety rules and regulations, production data collection and reporting protocols, and meets daily physical plant operational requirements.
• Transfer hazardous raw materials and dispose of hazardous waste streams.
• Demonstrate production facility leadership at all levels including safety stewardship, work prioritization, quality control, and overall product knowledge.
SKILLS & REQUIREMETNS
• A general knowledge of organic chemistry is necessary and specific knowledge of organosilicon and/or polymer chemistry is preferred.
• A general knowledge of chemical processing equipment is necessary, and experience with 5 to 50 L glass reactors under inert atmosphere is preferred.
• Careful attention to detail while following rules, regulations, and standard operation procedures is absolutely necessary.
• Direct, accurate, and prompt written and verbal communication skills are needed for this very challenging, fast-paced environment.
• Current fork lift and 40 hr HAZWOPR certifications are preferred.
EDUCATION
• A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or a closely-related discipline is preferred. 2+ year’s chemical or related processing experience may also be considered.
• Must be proficient with using computers. (MS Word and MS Excel applications)
