An international integrated Chemicals and Energy Company is looking for a Rail Distribution Specialist for a role in Houston, Texas.
Major Responsibilities:
• Assist with contract negotiation and manage relationships with rail service providers (freight and equipment). Includes preparing bid packages, analyzing responses and developing alternatives.
• Manage railcar fleet maintenance activities to ensure fleet is compliant with industry requirements and mechanically sound. Coordinate shopping / inspection plans with the plants and the business areas to make cars available for maintenance without interrupting internal and external customer needs.
• Assist with rail operations budget preparation and manage expenditures within approved funding levels.
• Monitor service provider performance and work with them to provide consistent reliable service to customers. Monitor and maintain rail transportation system shipment data integrity and provide data to carriers regarding performance and improvement opportunities.
• Analyze rail distribution costs and identify opportunities for cost or service improvements (optimize rail fleet size, utilization rates, railcar lease costs)
• Manage compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental initiatives and utilize service providers with acceptable safety and environmental performance records.
• If an event occurs that could result in a non-conformance, take prompt and appropriate action to prevent, correct and or inform Supervision of the situation.
Experience and/or Educational Requirements:
• Technical or Business related undergraduate degree, plus 3 to 5 years of experience in distribution activities or 10 years of business experience preferred.
• Broad knowledge of SNA operations and products is highly desirable.
• Good knowledge of information systems including SAP (SD, Purchasing, QM, and Finance) MBS, LIMS, etc.
• Requires interpersonal and analytical skills to optimize costs for the manufacturing and distribution services network.
• Must have strong safety, health and environmental performance standards and can meet the needs of the Client and their customers.
• Good organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
• Plant Operations background experience is desired.
