Are you ready to work for a dynamic and exciting organization? Come work for a world leader in innovative design and manufacturing of stage sets for the live entertainment industry. Our client is seeking an R&D Engineer to join their creative team.
It is the responsibility of the R&D Engineer to facilitate the effective and efficient use of proprietary company hardware and software and to be the resident “Expert” on these components. The R&D Engineer will be called upon to assist in designing, programming, integrating and configuring hardware and software solutions for company projects as assigned. R&D Engineers are key contributors to the development of the standard product line as well as defining new features for the Navigator software.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Is an Advanced Navigator Automation system user.
•Develops electrical designs for new products in ePlan by understanding product requirements; researching and testing electrical components and assembly methods and materials.
•Perform calculations to provide engineering analyses of electrical loads and requirements as it pertains to electrical design.
•Prepare bills of materials for finished electrical assemblies and assist in the procurement of outside vendor parts and services.
•Create physical testing criteria of equipment and coordinate expected and actual results analyses with fabrication and testing personnel.
•Assist in creation of full documentation packages (electrical schematics, fabrication drawings, O&M Manuals, etc) for R&D prototypes and new products.
•Investigate and access new technologies for applications in projects and products.
•Oversee and ensure maintenance of written procedures for the testing, set-up and programming of each type of hardware device as assigned.
•Develop and inform technical approaches and designs used for specific new projects.
•Maintain and contribute to the Automation Engineering knowledgebase to assure that all information is readily available and recognizable.
•Maintain all necessary documentation, including Daily Site reports, Work Reports and other documentation as assigned.
•Work with the R&D team, Electrical Designers, Integrators, Company Principals and software developers on the enhancement, modification or development of controller boards, hardware and other devices as assigned.
•Implement and maintain test fixtures for evaluation and troubleshooting of controller boards and other devices as required.
•Assist as required in the testing and trouble-shooting of all projects and products.
•Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Research and Development

Technical Understanding
•Must have a strong understanding of established electrical and electronics principles and understanding of safe practices when working with electricity.
•Must have experience with IEC 61508 and ISO 13849 safety standards.
•Must have experience with ePlan electrical design software.
•Must have experience with board level design, evaluation, troubleshooting and repair.
•Must have experience with Analog and Digital I/O, high speed serial communication and filtration circuit design.
•Must have experience the computerized control of variable speed motor drives in open and closed loop control, hydraulics control and pneumatics.
•Experience with industrial communications protocols such as Modbus, Ethercat, K-bus, CAN, Profibus, etc.
•Must have experience with AutoCad, Inventor or other 3D Modeling software.
•Must have experience with basic computer network equipment and network configuration.
•Must have experience with electrical troubleshooting and the tools required to do so including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
•Experience with Posix based operating systems a plus.
•Must be knowledgeable regarding industry standards, codes and regulations.
