Responsibility and Objectives: Accountant
• The main responsibility of the Accountant is to set up proper accounting procedures, information collation and financial reporting so that accounting is executed in a prompt and efficient manner and that reports are prepared properly for the Trust. The Trust shall have two ledgers – one for the Training Centre and another for Trust Operations, which will further require monthly consolidation.

Responsibilities and Tasks
The main responsibility of the Accountant include the following:
• Assist with establishing administrative processes, to facilitate capturing of accounting information and documentation.
• Prepare monthly comprehensive Management Accounts and Annual Financial Statements for the Training Centre and the Trust ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards.
• Ensure SARS and other financial regulatory compliance is maintained.
• Take part in formulating the Annual Work Plans and Budgets (AWPBs), preparing the annual budgets based on the formulated work plan, including the procurement plan, and the budget implementation reports.
• Maintain the accounting, financial and budget systems for the Training Centre and Trust Operations to ensure efficient generation of full and timely reports for use by the Trust and for compliance purposes.
• Ensure the Trustees are made aware of risks arising from any perceived weaknesses in the internal control system, and take steps to minimize the risks.
• Ensure that orderly files are kept ensuring that all financial documents relating to the Training Centre and Trust Operations (cash books, ledgers, registers, bank statements, invoices, and other vouchers) are retained and are available for inspection by external auditors and other stakeholders.
• Prepare disbursement and withdrawal applications and statements showing the flow of funds among the Trust’s and Training Centre’s current accounts.
• Maintain and regularly update the following: Procurement Register (Authorised List of Suppliers), Contracts Register, and staff files.
• Review the Fixed Assets Reconciliation
• Review the Bank / Purchase Order to Workshop Orders and Training Schedule Reconciliation on a weekly basis
• Perform the Training Schedule to Training Register Reconciliation on a weekly basis, ensuring all training conducted has been invoiced.
• Review Bank, Debtor and Creditor reconciliations to be performed by an Accounts Clerk
• Record all contracts, procurement and disbursements involving the Trust and Training Centre funds.
• Perform the consolidation of the Training Centre and Trust Operations ledgers monthly.
• Prepare reconciliations of all bank accounts and creditor’s reconciliations.
• Perform other functions as assigned by the General Manager.

 


Contractual Arrangements
The Accountant will report directly to the General Manager, but will accordingly have unfettered access to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the reporting of any irregularities identified. The Accountant will obtain supporting information from the Training Centre and Fluor South Africa in Woodmead as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience
The Accountant assigned shall possess:
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or professional accounting qualification and at least 3 years of post-qualification experience in accounting, preferably including responsibility for financial and accounting operations of services companies; knowledge of accounting in donor environments will be an asset.
• Extensive Knowledge of Pastel or Similar Accounting Software;
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and general computer skills;
• Extensive experience preparing budgets, financial reports and financial statements;
• Excellent command of the English language, spoken and written;
• Excellent interpersonal skills (team player, communication skills, etc.).
