Job Title: Automation Specialist

Primary Purpose
• To analyse Customer Technical problems, improve and modify Company’s equipment in liaison with Company’s France on Customers request. Feasibility studies and design of items for local manufacturing following Company’s standards. Technical assistance to production and maintenance entities at the clients sites and internally. Manage electrical and Automation projects including design, planning, site meetings, implementation, commissioning and training where necessary at customer site (Richards Bay & Maputo).
Accountabilities Engineering office
• Deliver specialised technical skills to support Company’s products, projects and operations.
• Maintain contact with customers to be aware of technical problems.
• Analyse technical problems, plan and implement improvement measures.
• Study feasibility and suggest possible solutions for electrical & automation projects.
• Initiate and discuss modification or improvement with Company’s France, internally and with client.
• Design and prepare the automation design (PLC programs, VSD settings, network layout etc.) for the equipment.
• Draft, if necessary, electrical diagrams, equipment and cable schedules, P&ID’s etc.
• Support the production department by ensuring availability of drawings and data packs.
• Where necessary do cabling, wiring, commissioning and testing on Company’s equipment.
Project management
• Evaluate opportunities for re-engineering on existing plants.
• Contribute to the costing of improvements or modifications.
• Contribute to the development of project schedules.
• Liaise with solution and material suppliers.
Time and efficiency
• Minimize response delay to customer queries.
• Maintain efficient filing system for documentation, notes, electronic data and drawings.
• Highlight assembly discrepancies and propose a corrective plan.
• Participate to maintain in Company’s system accurate values.
Quality & HSE
• Keeping the client first and in all aspects.
• Accountable for quality assurance and control to guarantee Company’s standards in all tasks.
• Ensure documentation packages are created, updated and is available for electrical & automation.
• Focus on delivering quality in all aspects and minimise non-conformance costs.
• Ensure all work meets relevant standards, i.e. for example SANS, FEM, ISO, IEC, Company’s design procedures and standards etc.
• Comply with the OHAS Act (83 of 1995) / employee section
• Comply with Company’s Golden rules, and Company’s Directives and Guidelines.
Problem Solving
• Company’s client requirements.
• Specifying replacements to obsolete equipment.
• Product non conformity
• Keeping abreast of South African regulations.
Education, Qualifications & Key Experience
• National Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Light Current) in Instrumentation and Control systems, or similar is required at minimum.
• Electrical Trade Test is advantageous.
• 3 Years’ experience in automation field.
• Experience with Allen Bradley products.
• Site experience in the electrical and automation fields
