SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Manufacturing team member who sets up and operates complex manual and computer numerically controlled (CNC) shop equipment using drawings, specifications and prints to consistently produce high quality work.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-     Set-up all manual and CNC machines for production and prototype operation

-     Read and understand drawings and prints to be able to produce parts as required

-     Make critical adjustments to maintain production rate and quality

-     Modify existing machine tool programs at control interface

-     Create precision machining programs using company software programming tools

-     Know how to inspect part characteristics at in-process and final check points

-     Assist in teaching and setting-up machines for entry level trainees.

-     Assist trainees in learning the following:

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES ASSIGNED:

Equipment Preparation, Set-up, Operation, Cleaning and Maintenance

Follow specific written and/or oral instruction to safely and competently:

  • Set-up and/or breakdown all equipment, fixtures, tooling, etc for production and prototype parts.
  • Proficiently produce simple and complex finished and semi-finished parts at the highest standards.
  • Assure all department work centers and related areas are safely maintained, clean and organized.
  • Perform, teach and monitor routine and preventative maintenance of machines and equipment.
  • Anticipate, identify, resolve and/or notify supervisor of maintenance issues.

Productivity

  • Monitor workstation(s) queue volume; notify supervisor as needed to assure smooth efficient flow.
  • Review, request and/or verify tooling is complete and ready for set-ups well in advance of need.
  • Make recommendations for improvements to all processes, procedures and policies.
  • Assist supervisor in ensuring department production, efficiency and safety goals are met.
  • Work with Engineering and Quality to identify process strengths, weaknesses and alternatives.
  • Provide support to engineering for development of parts and processes.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in CNC-related programming and drawing software.

Quality Assurance – Inspection, Dimensional Checks, Part Appearance, Conformance

Follow specific written and/or oral instruction to:

  • Promote, guide and assist others to meet Quality policy, ISO standard, customer expectations, etc.
  • Perform intricate First Piece Inspections within the scope of Quality guidelines.
  • Instruct and mentor department members on part cleanliness, uniform finish, workmanship, etc.

  • Maintain positive atmosphere by acting and communicating in a cooperative, respectful manner
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Not Applicable

 

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Must have ability conduct work in an organized manner

Must be able to handle and process information in a timely and confidential manner

Sufficient ability to read, write and speak in English and be understood; and to follow instructions

Must be able to interact diplomatically with people

Must be able to read, interpret and understand drawings, routers and process specifications Sufficient visual acuity (corrected) to read instructions, operate machines and visually inspect parts Must be able to receive and understand training by various methods: written, on-the-job, computer, etc. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate machines, equipment, tools, tooling and measuring instruments Must be able to produce parts correctly and be able to recognize and fix mistakes

Must be able to regularly and consistently meet production and quality performance metrics

Sufficient physical strength to lift and carry up to forty pounds frequently

Must be able to understand and successfully complete multiple tasks and projects Must be able to work independently and make good, sound and timely decisions Must be able to learn and accurately use company computer software programs

Must be able to understand and fully support the company Mission, Safety and Quality policies

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must possess and be able to produce a verifiable High School Diploma / GED

3-5 years of applicable experience in a manufacturing and/or production environment
