Company Overview:
The Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant (“the Plant”) has been operating since December 2015, with a design capacity of 50 million gallons of potable water per day (50 MGD or 56,000 acre-feet per year) to meet 10% of SDCWA service area potable water demands. The Plant takes its supply of seawater from the Agua Hedionda Lagoon and uses reverse osmosis technology to produce potable water. The Plant typically operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

The Desalination Plant is the largest, most technologically advanced and energy efficient seawater desalination plant in the USA – developed as a Public Private Partnership with the San Diego County Water Authority. In 2019, the plant was purchased by Aberdeen Standard (ABRDN). ABRDN, established the Project Company referred to as Channelside to maintain and operate the plant for 25 years.

Job Overview:
The Construction Manager oversees the construction of a new seawater intake system, the Intake Modifications Project. It comprises a pile-supported screen and bridge structure (intake) with access ramps, 1mm dual flow screens and a screen spray wash and debris removal system among other components. Modification and decommissioning of the existing intake infrastructure to ensure compliance with a) regulatory approvals.

The Construction Manager is responsible for coordinating all construction activities, managing resources, and maintaining compliance with project contracts and regulations. The Construction Manager plays a pivotal role in interpreting and enforcing contract requirements throughout the construction process. Their expertise and attention to detail are crucial for delivering high-quality drinking water while adhering to contractual obligations.
