A major Mining Operator is looking for an Environmental Manager to work in West Africa on a rotational basis.
The Environmental Manager is responsible for ensuring that the project complies with all applicable environmental standards, within the permitting position dictated by the countries Environmental Protection and Management Law and international industry norms.
As Environmental Manager your roles and responsibilities will include:
• Provide technical guidance and management of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) services contracts and other matters for the Project and any other future options studies.
• Oversee the development and presentation of Project Briefs, Scoping Reports and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Reports to international standards.
• Devise, manage and keep up to date all environmental constraints documents, design alternatives, environmental management plans, closure plan and other owner's documents for the Project and other options studies.
• Manage any other environmental permitting activities that may become necessary.
• Complete the quarterly environmental monitoring report.
• Complete the quarterly Chief Executive Officer's (CEO) compliance reports, Business Annual Review (BAR) and any other periodic, quarterly or annual corporate environmental, technical and compliance reporting.
• Overview of Water Monitoring Plan implementation.
• Manage environmental rehabilitation for Phase 2 worksites and operations in the country.
• Manage environmental safeguards for Projects sites in the country
• Manage implementation of funding partnerships with IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative, Conservation International and USAID for the Biodiversity Conservation Programme (BCP).
• Provide strategic guidance on the BCP, including terms of reference (TOR) for additional specialist inputs.
• Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
• Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in activities, consistent with the companies Community Relations Policies.
• Become actively involved in the companies aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people. Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business.
• Provide leadership necessary to ensure that employees and any contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that meet or exceed industry standards and any applicable legislation.
• Resource environmental programs to ensure legal compliance and the reduction risk of environmental incidents through: Provision of adequate facilities and equipment, Participation in the development and enforcement of appropriate procedures, Provision of awareness and skills training to ensure a competent workforce.
The successful candidate would have previously worked as an Environmental Manager in the Mining industry and have the following skills and experiences:
• Professionally qualified to advanced degree level in appropriate field(s) of environmental science.
• Solid understanding of best practice environmental permitting and management processes.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams of highly skilled and experienced personnel having diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Able to clearly demonstrate the aptitude to drive a light vehicle
• Demonstrate a commitment to understanding local culture and impart mining operations and technical knowledge to the local project and mine operations personnel.
