The Opportunity

Supporting Client's Onsite division, the General Superintendent provides oversight on demolition, metal, and other asset processing projects and supports field based supervisors in the coordination of labour and equipment. This role is responsible in ensuring specifications are being strictly followed, and work is proceeding safely, on schedule, within budget, while meeting or exceeding quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and project estimation, and proposal preparation, as required.
• Coordinate the dispatch of crews and equipment up to and including the coordination of rental equipment, and in-house and third-party trucking services to effectively conduct daily operations.
• Collaborate with Project Managers for pre-job planning.
• Provide leadership in safety by insuring all company, client and legislated safety policies and procedures are met or exceeded. Ensure all necessary project safety provisions and procedures are implemented on each project.
• Oversee field operation crews and perform leadership and management responsibilities in the areas of hiring and on boarding, performance management, and career development in collaboration with Human Resources.
• Work closely with Human Resources in talent acquisition during the recruitment cycle and hiring process, and develop a talent pipelines for upcoming field employment opportunities.
• Manage and provide leadership to support the responsibilities of direct reports while supporting development opportunities.
• Work with the Aboriginal & Stakeholder relations lead to develop and maintain positive relationships with the economic development offices of Métis and First Nation communities.
• Assist the field-based supervisors in job set setup, work planning and execution, ensure the field-based supervisor is fully executing and complying with the project scope in partnership with the Project Managers.
• Support field-based supervisors to ensure they are competent in input of field data capture and job costing.
• Perform Superintendent duties at multiple job sites simultaneously.
• Help to identify areas of work outside of contracted scope.
• Interact with customer field representatives to ensure that commitments are being met and solicit customer feedback to improve service.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of related projects with a post-secondary degree/diploma or combination of education and related experience.
• Possess a strong understanding of at least one relevant demolition discipline area:
o Hazardous/Non Hazardous Waste Management, Metals Recycling, Asset Processing.
• Previous experience in Heavy Equipment Operation (Excavator, Dozer, Rock Trucks).
• Possess a strong knowledge of transportation logistics and transportation of dangerous goods (TDG).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office with a technical proficiency to work within company systems.
• Ability to read, review and understand technical drawings and specifications.
• Ability to read, interpret other documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to travel and work overtime, as workload requires.
• Strong organization skills with the ability to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities, and work within a fast-paced environment.
