Context:

• Reporting to the Production Manager, the Machine Shop Lead will supervise all activities in the Machine Shop. The Machine Shop lead must be able to operate, set and programme machines in accordance to customer specifications and company standards.

Primary Purpose

• To satisfy the production requirements of works orders and sales orders in line with the company’s work instructions, quality standards and procedures.

Accountabilities

Setting and Operating CNC & Conventional Machines

• Create CNC programs from ISO/SANS drawings.

• Ability to set up, program, operate and troubleshoot CNC lathes and mills independently

• Operate the CNC lathes & Conventional Machines.

• Reduce set up time and machining time through process improvements.

• Maintain all machine shop repair and maintenance records

• Inspect completed work for conformance to specification using tools such as callipers, height gauges, micrometers, rulers etc.

Education& Qualifications

• Matric

• Trade Tested Machinist

• Preferably a tertiary certificate in CNC Machining

• Software programming – Mastercam and Solidworks

Relevant Experience

• Minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment in a supervisory position

• Conventional machine experience

• Know of fine tolerances

• Tools & gauge experience essential

• Experience with planning, estimating and reporting

• Clean, repair and perform preventive maintenance on machines

• Must be fluent in reading drawings

• 5S / Lean Six Sigma advantageous
