We currently seek a high caliber Mechanical Project Engineer for a direct hire position within our client's team of experienced professionals. Based in Greenville, SC, you will be working for one of the world's leading automation solutions providers. The Mechanical Project Engineer position requires a hands-on individual who can take on both mechanical engineering tasks as well as project management tasks for turnkey automation projects. The person in this role will be leading a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to implement automated solutions across a wide variety of industries. The ideal candidate will be able to design automated equipment as well as manage and provide guidance in all aspects of automation projects including sales, applications, concepting, design, manufacture, testing, installation, and commissioning.
Manages scope, budget, and schedule of industrial automation projects involving new and existing equipment according to customer contracts
Manages and participates in new machine design, existing machinery redesign, upgrade, retrofit and cost control and reduction projects
Manage, schedule, and monitor project status and keep customers informed of progress
Provide technical guidance and direction to the project team
Assist sales and application teams during pre-project kick initiatives & providing a smooth transition to formal project kick offs
Manage project budgets including labor and material costs, work with purchasing to expedite if necessary
Report the status of their projects weekly to upper management and operation teams
Develops and coordinates Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plans, on-site installation, startup and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) activities at customer site.
Maintains an up to date knowledge of the latest automation technologies
Manages and participates in continual cost reduction and machine improvement projects
Up to 25% domestic travel
Education and Experience Requirements:
BSME or 10+ years' experience doing mechanical design & project management
3 to 5 years minimum experience doing mechanical design on automation projects
Experience managing portions of or entire projects from start to finish in the field of automation or similar industries
Strong background in design of custom automation solutions including instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc.
Familiar with a variety mechanical engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
Basic understanding of machine controls and electrical devices
Experience with the following: MS Project, AutoCad, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office
Familiarity with production and fabrication best practices
Experience implementing and improving engineering procedures and standards
Requires excellent communication skills to work with the customer, department leads, other project engineers or project managers, project teams (mechanical / electrical / controls), and the production team
