A major train operator are looking for a Project Director to develop, direct and manage the project that delivers the new trains into service, on time, fit for purpose and in budget.  This will be a 2 year contract opportunity based in London.
Your key Responsibilities will include the following:
• liaising with all key stakeholders both external and internal to ensure all milestones are identified and delivered
• To direct and provide oversight of the technical and commercial verification of the trains
• Provide formal acceptance of standards with the Rolling Stock company, by managing the new fleet approval process
• Work with other team members to ensure all aspects of the trains introduction and subsequent operation are successful and a smooth seamless transition is afforded.
• Informing the manufacturer of changes to the project in a timely a manner.
• Reviewing and agreeing variations to the supply contract, that aligns with the company’s business needs and delivers trains on time, in budget.
• Agree with the Manufacturer the test plan and test programme to align with approvals and successful introduction into service.
• Manages the Manufacturer in accordance with the Manufacture and Supply Agreement
• Manages the customer team supporting the Manufacturer
• Coordinates on Infrastructure changes needed for the train with Infrastructure workstream
• Coordinates with depot Infrastructure needed for the train maintenance
• Coordinates with TSA project manager on handover of trains from manufacture to everyday operation
• Maintains a Risk register of the project
• Coordinates input into design reviews
• Arranges payments associated with key milestones
• Supporting the Franchise and PMO Director under company’s governance
• Reporting through risks and mitigation to the risk meeting
• Reporting progress, challenges and inhibitors to the companies Directorate ensuring the timely supply of information to facilitate timely interventions as required

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
• Degree educated in a science/engineering discipline;
• Significant rail engineering and commercial leadership experience.
• Demonstrates a strong service orientation towards external clients viewing work stream leaders, team members and management of the TOCs operated by the Group as internal customers
• Able to identify opportunities to enhance the quality of work, initiate and drive projects through to completion.
• Continuously scan external sources of professional best practice, apply them to improve processes and share and trains other teams’ modelling resources;
• Contribute actively to the delivery of projects, not simply delegating or waiting to be asked to contribute;
• It is desirable that you have worked on a similar project involving new trains/Fleet.
