Location: UK (London, Stoke or Birmingham), plus flexible working from home
Our client seeks an experienced Project Director initially to lead a critical bid for one of the UK’s most iconic Rail projects. This individual will be responsible for developing the successful bid strategy and the long term positioning of the company as the primary supplier of electrification services to rail infrastructure industry for the future.
The Project Director will have overall responsibility for safely managing projects, (both strategically and operationally) to ensure the appropriate use of technical and human resources to achieve on-time completion according to specifications and budgeted costs. The role acts as the senior leader interface to customers whilst planning, monitoring, managing and reporting engineering and construction projects from initiation through to completion.
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:
• Have a strong track record of project execution within the UK Rail sector. They will be able to demonstrate detailed understanding of the nuances of the UK Rail sector with a robust awareness of current Rail regulations and working practices. Excellent commercial judgement will be required along with a strong network of contacts and a positive reputation for success within the industry.
• Be able to articulate and demonstrate how their leadership has led to optimised outcomes for all stakeholders in complex PMO or Joint Venture project delivery models.
• Be able to show how they have created high performing multi-disciplinary teams that are able to integrate within a client organisation able to meet changing project demands and priorities in high pressure situations.
• Be able to demonstrate development and progression of high performing individuals and the ability to spot and nurture top talent of the future.
• Be able to show evidence of post project relationship building that has led to future business opportunities and the ability to build and maintain highly effective business networks.
• Be able to show the impact of positive relationship building at multiple levels within a PMO/JV or client organisation that has led to successful project outcomes.
• Hold a Masters or Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or construction discipline and be able to demonstrate experience delivering complex projects in the UK rail market.
While a strong technical background is a prerequisite for this role, we are particularly keen to seek an individual with a strong entrepreneurial background with inspirational leadership skills able to build consensus and culture within the Rail business unit. Commercial acumen will also be every bit as important as having a proven track record of management of large-scale, multimillion-pound projects. Being able to assess and balance commercial and project risks will also be an essential requirement.
