Main Task & Responsibility

To control movements of trains and shunting movements under normal or abnormal conditions over a specific designated section of lines through applicable train control methods and in accordance with procedures and requirements of the train plan to ensure a safe, efficient train service as well as client satisfaction.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Essential unless otherwise indicated):

Grade 12

Certificate Trade Test / Mechanician



EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS (Essential unless otherwise indicated):

5 – 7 years Operational experience in a mining/operational environment working with automated plant operations

2 years Team leader / Supervisor / Technical understanding

2 years Load Out Operations (Advantageous)

2 years as an artisan working on fixed plant equipment (Advantageous)

Valid Code B/EB Driver’s license

Must obtain a symbol B at the Dover Assessment


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (Essential unless otherwise indicated):

Computer literate (JDE, Excel, Word, MES, Scada)

Schedule and manage the execution of the loading activities within the span of control in order to meet dispatch targets, including the liaison of up and down stream process teams (internal & external).

Analyse loading process and asset performance trends against set shift targets to initiate corrective action in order to meet dispatch targets.

Initiate root cause analysis in order to address loading process and asset performance problems and / or to improve efficiencies.

Plan and supervise the execution of first line maintenance including the arrangement of spares.

Conduct Task Observations/Inspections according to set standards and frequencies to ensure that all subordinates are aligned to applicable legislation.

Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the Manager (direct supervisor).

Adhere to SHERQ, legal standards and procedures and timeously and accurately report SHERQ related observations and incidents.

Ensure the adherence to process and engineering operational supporting systems and procedures and assist line management in the improvement thereof.

All appropriate SP’s and COP’s are read, signed off and adhered to.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) worn at all times.
