We are currently hiring a permanent Superintendent for one of our Middle East-based clients for a fleet of LNG carriers.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Administer, coordinate, monitor, evaluate as well as provide expert opinion on the technical and operational management of LNG vessels which are operated by third party vessel managers.
• Ensure all activities are carried out in a cost-effective and reliable manner thus protecting the interest of the owners.
• Interact with charterers with regards to all operational and technical issues with the objective of protecting the interest of the owners.
• Establish and maintain good relationships with Joint Venture associates.
• Build and maintain relationships with Charterers and vendors to ensure that best practices are implemented and followed while representing the interest of the owners.
• Manage the resolution of business and technical conflicts.
• Work with joint venture ship managers on solving operational and technical issues that were experienced onboard the vessels. This shall involve working with the ship managers till the issue is completely closed and the learning should also be shared with the entire fleet team so as to prevent re-occurrence of such an issue.
• Initiate working groups and engage with Charterers/ Technical Managers/ JV Partners for the purpose of discussing operational and technical subjects affecting the fully owns and joint venture fleet. The main objective of such a group will be to provide reliable information to the management to make an informed decision.
• Interact with Charterers, JV partners and vessel managers and initiate discussion on topics of mutual interest.
• Develop benchmarks for measuring the performance of third-party managers. The same shall be reported to the senior management of the organization so that informed assessment and decisions can be made.
• Monitor costs, profitability and operating expenses and capital budgets.
• Review the financial performance and budgets related to vessels and monitor any deviations in budgets.
• Evaluate performance and off-hire claims that have been brought up by the Charterers. In coordination with ship managers, work towards negating and reducing claims by providing operational and technical expertise and thus protect the financial exposure of the organization.
• Monitor the performance of the vessel on a regular basis and try to match up to industry standards with regards to the same.
• Perform statistical analysis for issues such as repair periods, fuel consumption, quality of repairs and time taken in the repairs etc. to ensure that the vessels are running in accordance with the standards that have been set for the same.
• Review the dry-docking reports, provided by the 3rd party ship managers, for each drydocking period.
• Attend vessels during docking and provide a comprehensive report.
• Undertake safety and technical audits and vetting of vessels as and when it is required.
• Conduct audits of the vessel managers and present the findings of the same in the form of a report as part of the quality assurance process of the organization.
• Serve as the regulatory liaison and one-point of contact for any approvals that need to be obtained from government departments.
• Shares responsibility for the performance & development of employees reporting to this position.
• Ensures that HR policies & procedures are effectively executed in the Marine & Operations section.
• Responsible for the preparation of hire invoices, reimbursable expenses etc. and the proper collection thereof for vessels.
• Responsible for collating and monitoring vessel performance reports.
• Responsible for preparation of vessel operation reports for third parties, as necessary.

Education & Professional Qualification
• Marine Engineer Class 1 (Steam preferred)

Professional Experience
• Sailed as chief engineer on board LNGC/VLGC Carriers
• 10 years of sailing experience as Nautical Officer, including as a Senior Officer on LPG/ LNG tankers
• At least 2 years of shore experience in managing operations of a similar type of the Company’s vessels (desired).


Geographic Experience
GCC or other countries in a similar business setting (desirable)


Computer Skills
Good knowledge of MS Windows, MS Office applications and web-based applications


Language Skills
Fluent in English – both written and spoken


Market/Industry/Functional Knowledge
• Operational knowledge of vessel operations, administration and inspection activities;
• Good knowledge of commercial management of vessels;
• Good knowledge of Maritime Quality Management Systems, including ISM, TMSA, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
