MAIN TASK& RESPONSIBILITY
• Supervise and manage strata control officers and observers. Manage, improve and maintain rock engineering systems and conduct underground investigations and input into mine design

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS(Essential unless otherwise indicated):
• Grade 12
• Chamber of Mines Strata Control Certificate
• BSc Mining/ Geology or Bachelor of Technology Mining Engineering
• Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate(At least 2 theory papers)
• Code B/EB Motor Vehicle License


EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS(Essential unless otherwise indicated):
• 5 Years’experience as a Strata Control Officer in a mining operations environment

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS(Essential unless otherwise indicated):
• System skills which include MS Office, Electronic Document Management System, Micro-Station, Enterprise Resource Planning, Information Management Systems, Learner Information Management Systems, SHERQ Systems.
• Collate integrated scorecards for work areas, audit tracker and secondary support tracker. Create reports. Perform trend analysis and internal audits. Develop document control systems and practices
• Optimise the function's core internal processes and internal supply chain and resolve functional operating conflicts
• Promote and enforce a culture of statutory compliance. Evaluate negative trends in terms of compliance to mine design and standard and recommend remedial solutions. Communicate changes where applicable. Monitor and ensure operational adherence to regulations and standards. Ensure implementation of remedial actions
• Integrate and align change initiatives. Walk the talk and motivate others to implement change programmes
• Plan, direct and assess Quality Management within function and implement remedial actions. Ensure SCO reports and audit quality
• Remain up to date with macro and micro-economic conditions, legislation, competition, market sentiment and the industry in general, to indicate to the Rock Engineer the changes that may influence the implementation of the functional strategic plan
• Provide input into the development of the short and medium term planning. Analyse business plans and ensure that implementation is aligned to the short and medium term plans
• Supervise and manage strata control officers and observers
• Provide inputs timeously into the rock engineering systems to ensure the system and the database are regularly updated
• Conduct underground investigations and review both the SCO reports and Observer’s audit reports
• Engage with subordinates to encourage and recognise improvement. Submit all innovations to Rock Engineer to ensure the means of implementation are provided
