Our client, a major resource development organization, is seeking a JUNIOR PROJECT ENGINEER (MECHANICAL EIT) to join their growing project engineering team supporting a large-scale mining development project. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated early-career engineer to gain exposure to major mining and mineral processing projects while developing technical, project delivery, and stakeholder management skills.

This is an initially Vancouver office-based role supporting mechanical engineering activities, equipment package coordination, procurement support, and multidisciplinary project execution. During the early phases of the project, the successful candidate will work closely with engineering, procurement, and project teams from the Vancouver office, with occasional travel to site as required.

As the project progresses into execution and construction phases, the role is expected to become increasingly site-focused, with the potential for a longer-term site assignment approximately two years into the role.

This position is ideal for an ambitious and proactive Engineer-in-Training who is eager to learn, take ownership of responsibilities, and build experience across the full project lifecycle, from engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning, and handover.

Work Location: Initially Vancouver, BC (Office-Based)
Future Requirement: Potential transition to a site-based assignment as project execution advances (anticipated in approximately 2 years)
Travel Requirements: Occasional site travel as required
Employment Status: Temporary Employee
Contract Duration: 1 year with possible extension

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical engineering work packages and project activities.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of mechanical equipment tender packages and procurement activities.
  • Review and track engineering deliverables, drawings, specifications, datasheets, and vendor documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineering disciplines, procurement teams, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
  • Participate in equipment package reviews, technical evaluations, and vendor clarification activities.
  • Assist with project scope development, scheduling, progress tracking, and action item management.
  • Support multidisciplinary design reviews, constructability reviews, risk assessments, and technical workshops.
  • Assist with project reporting, document control, and engineering coordination activities.
  • Support construction, commissioning, startup, and project closeout activities as required.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards, project procedures, and engineering best practices.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or another Canadian engineering association.
  • 0-3 years of engineering, project, construction, co-op, or industrial experience.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Experience
  • Exposure to mining, mineral processing, heavy industrial, infrastructure, manufacturing, or energy projects.
  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment, pumps, piping systems, materials handling equipment, or process plant environments.
  • Previous co-op, internship, or project experience supporting engineering or capital projects.
  • Exposure to procurement, vendor coordination, or construction activities is considered an asset.
  • Site experience is beneficial but not required.

Key Attributes
  • Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop within a project engineering environment.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project setting.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
  • Interested in long-term career growth within mining and capital projects.

What You'll Gain
  • Exposure to a major mining development project.
  • Mentorship from experienced engineering and project professionals.
  • Experience supporting mechanical package engineering and project delivery activities.
  • Exposure to engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of a major capital project.
  • Opportunity to develop both office-based project engineering skills and future site execution experience.
  • A clear pathway for professional development within a large-scale project environment.
