Overview
We have an exciting contract opportunity to join our global client as a Lead Process Engineer – Heavy Oil.
Responsibilities
• Work on a variety of heavy oil projects for domestic and international clients, with scopes ranging from FEED studies and modular packages to full turnkey EPFC projects.
• Acquire and apply in-depth technical expertise in heavy oil processing.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers, including delegation, review, and authentication of professional work products.
• Act as a key decision-maker while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients.
• Gain practical experience by overseeing fabrication and assembly activities at the facilities.
• Travel domestically and internationally to support startup and commissioning activities.
• Receive mentorship from senior process engineers, supervisors, and managers to support technical development and growth as a lead process engineer.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with APEGA, or eligibility for registration.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in heavy oil processing, including SAGD, wellpads, and water treating.
• Experience with alternative process design such as glycol dehydration, sweetening, mechanical refrigeration, oil processing, and compression is considered an asset.
• EPC and/or fabrication experience is preferred.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and internal teams.
• Proficiency with HYSYS and other engineering software such as BR&E ProMax, VMGSim Symmetry, and FlareNet.
• Experience sizing process equipment (e.g., separators, treaters, FWKO, heat exchangers, PSVs, flare systems, control valves, pumps, and compressors) is an asset.
• Familiarity with standard process deliverables including PFDs, HMBs, P&IDs, line lists, design basis memoranda, cause and effect diagrams, control narratives, datasheets, hydraulics, and line sizing.
