We are seeking an experienced Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) Lead to support multiple mining projects executed under an EPCM delivery model, primarily during the FEED and Detail Design phases.
The AWP Lead will be responsible for embedding construction‑driven planning principles into engineering, procurement, and execution strategies to ensure alignment across EPCM teams, Owners, and downstream construction contractors. This role plays a critical part in driving predictability, constructability, and execution readiness across the project portfolio.
Success in this role requires strong technical leadership, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the capacity to influence stakeholders without direct authority across complex, multi‑organization environments.
Key Responsibilities
AWP Strategy & EPCM Implementation
- Develop, implement, and govern Advanced Work Packaging strategies across multiple EPCM‑delivered mining projects.
- Define and maintain AWP standards, procedures, and deliverables aligned with project execution plans and Owner requirements.
- Establish Construction Work Package (CWP) criteria to support constructability, procurement strategies, and phased execution.
- Ensure AWP principles are embedded into FEED deliverables to support cost certainty, schedule confidence, and construction readiness.
Engineering Integration (FEED & Detail Design)
- Partner with discipline engineering leads to ensure engineering deliverables are scoped, sequenced, and issued in alignment with CWPs.
- Support construction‑driven design reviews and provide constructability input during FEED and Detail Design.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Construction Automation teams to enable model‑based work packaging where applicable.
Owner & Contractor Interface
- Act as the primary AWP interface between the EPCM organization, Owner teams, and downstream construction contractors.
- Facilitate AWP workshops, alignment sessions, and execution readiness reviews with Owners and construction partners.
Planning, Scheduling & Procurement Alignment
- Collaborate with Project Controls and Scheduling teams to integrate CWPs into the master project schedule.
- Support procurement strategies by aligning long‑lead items, bulk materials, and fabrication with work packaging requirements.
- Ensure packaging logic supports contractor‑developed Installation Work Packages (IWPs).
Multi‑Project Governance & Reporting
- Provide AWP governance and oversight across multiple projects to ensure consistency and repeatability.
- Develop and track AWP KPIs, progress metrics, and maturity assessments.
- Identify and manage cross‑project risks, constraints, and opportunities related to packaging and execution sequencing.
Leadership & Capability Building
- Serve as the AWP subject matter expert within the EPCM organization.
- Coach and mentor engineers, planners, and project teams on AWP principles and best practices.
- Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement across mining projects.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 10+ years of experience in mining, heavy industrial, or large capital project environments.
- 5+ years of direct experience implementing Advanced Work Packaging on EPC or EPCM projects.
- Strong understanding of EPCM delivery models, including the separation of engineering and construction execution.
- Proven experience supporting multiple projects concurrently.
- Solid knowledge of FEED and Detail Design engineering workflows.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline; trade certification or diploma considered.
- AWP certification (COAA, CII, or equivalent).
- Experience working with third‑party construction contractors.
- Mining project experience (e.g., gold, copper, potash, base metals).
- Familiarity with digital delivery, 3D model‑based planning, and AWP data environments.
We thank all applicants for their interest. However, only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
