TRS is currently working with a client engaged in supporting a major Canadian capital program which comprises three concurrent construction projects moving toward operations in 2026.

To support this critical execution phase, we are seeking a Senior‑level PROJECT CONTROLS MANAGER for a 6-month contract, with potential to extend until end of 2026.

They are seeking a seasoned professional capable of delivering program‑level oversight while working collaboratively with existing project‑level controls teams.

Location: Flexible anywhere in AB or BC (periodic travel required; expenses covered)
Start: Within the next few weeks
Rate: $130/hour (short-term of 6 months)
Employment Status: Independent Contractor
Industry: Major capital construction (industrial/mining/water infrastructure)


Role Overview
You will provide integrated oversight across a portfolio of three active projects, ensuring alignment in cost, schedule, change, progress, and forecasting performance. 

Workload expectation:
• 70% management & oversight
• 30% hands‑on/doer responsibilities
A steady, relationship‑oriented leadership style is essential. We are seeking someone who influences through collaboration rather than disruption.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide program‑level project controls leadership across three major construction projects.
  • Lead integration and consistency of cost, schedule, change management, forecasting, and progress measurement practices.
  • Support and mentor a team of 8–10 project controls professionals, including schedulers, planners, and project‑level PC Managers.
  • Consolidate project-level reporting into unified program dashboards and executive updates.
  • Analyze variances, risks, accruals, trends, and forecast metrics to support high‑quality decision-making.
  • Coordinate with multi‑disciplinary construction, engineering, and commissioning teams.
  • Travel periodically to the office/site as required (costs covered).

Required Experience & Qualifications
  • 10+ years of Project Controls experience in major construction or industrial environments (mining, oil sands, energy, or similar sectors).
  • Strong expertise in EVM, cost and change management, scheduling, progress measurement, and quantity tracking.
  • Solid cost control background: invoicing, actuals, incurred costs, accruals, and forecasting.
  • Proficiency with enterprise systems such as SAP, Cobra, Prism, P6, and InEight.
  • Experience managing and developing project controls teams.
  • Prior work on large construction projects is essential.
  • Preference for candidates with owner’s contractor experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of commissioning processes is considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; calm, steady, and collaborative demeanor.

  • Naturally diplomatic—able to integrate with existing teams without disrupting workflows.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with hands‑on willingness when required.
  • Able to start quickly and commit to the short‑term contract duration.
