Our client, a leading Industrial Services & Energy company with operations & projects across North America is seeking a Vice President of Health & Safety to join their team in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta.

This person would be responsible for the management of our client’s Health & Safety program and organization. This includes the responsibility for continuously bettering the safety performance to exceptional standards, ensuring sustainable compliance, and developing/implementing Safety programs/procedures. This role will be supporting sustainability initiatives and managing systems across the business to support the Safety function.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that Health & Safety is the number one priority by maintaining and improving safety culture by developing safety systems, policies, procedures, and by leading safety campaigns;
- Develop safety strategies, policies, programs, procedures, training, and actions throughout the organization;
- Analyze the organizational impact of health & safety standards in the geographic areas in which it does business by utilizing local Safety Management group and with prior experience in those areas;
- Prepare risk analyses with costs/benefits;
- Establish a strategic plan that leads to cost-effective and compliant operations;
- Develop and manage the department budget with strategic goals in mind;
- Ensure the assessment, prevention, and management of issues and risks that arise that could affect the organization;
- Plan & conduct assessments, inspections, and audits to monitor compliance with local laws and company requirements;
- Partner with operations to ensure that corrective and preventive measures are implemented when needed;
- Coach, oversee, and mentor the professional development of Health & Safety professionals on our client’s team;
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in a similar role;
- CRSP or other top-level safety certifications would be preferred;
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related disciplines would be preferred;
- Strong understanding of business management principles like strategic planning & resource allocation;
- Union experience would be an asset;
- Strong communication & presentations skills to be easily able to present to the Executive team, business partners, and other stakeholders;
- Travel when required, especially in the first 6 months in the role;
