We are currently seeking a high caliber CA-Licensed Architect for a long-term basis within our client’s team of experienced professionals. Based in San Diego, CA.

Our client is seeking a California-licensed Senior Project Architect with deep K-12 experience to lead the planning, design, and delivery of public education projects throughout California. This role requires strong working knowledge of DSA processes, district coordination, consultant leadership, and technical documentation, along with the ability to guide teams from early programming through construction administration.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with school districts, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies, while supporting internal studio leadership and mentoring emerging staff.


Job Requirements
  • Lead K-12 education projects from programming through construction administration
  • Serve as primary technical lead and coordinate closely with Principals and Project Managers
  • Manage DSA submissions, back-checks, deferred approvals, and close-out documentation
  • Coordinate directly with school districts, user groups, and facilities committees
  • Oversee and manage consultant teams (structural, MEP, civil, landscape, and specialty disciplines)
  • Ensure compliance with CBC, Title 24, DSA accessibility requirements, and district standards
  • Direct production of Revit-based construction documentation sets
  • Support campus modernization, phased occupancy planning, and active-campus coordination strategies
  • Participate in presentations to school boards, facilities committees, and public agencies
  • Provide construction administration leadership including RFIs, submittals, site visits, and coordination with inspectors
  • Support scheduling, scope alignment, and consultant deliverables across multiple projects
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to internal technical quality control standards
  • Assist with proposals, interviews, and education-sector pursuit strategies

Qualifications:
  • Active California Architectural License required
  • Minimum 10+ years of K-12 project experience in California
  • Demonstrated success navigating DSA approval processes from submission through certification
  • Strong working knowledge of California Building Code, Title 24 Energy, and DSA accessibility requirements
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary consultant teams
  • Strong communication skills with both technical teams and district stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent education projects
  • Experience with DSA modernization and campus improvement projects
  • Familiarity with OPSC funding programs and bond-funded project delivery
  • Participation in educational facility master planning efforts
  • Experience presenting to district boards or public agencies
  • Knowledge of Division of the State Architect close-out certification workflows
  • LEED or sustainability-focused project experience
  • Support Principals in maintaining strong district relationships
  • Contribute to education-sector growth opportunities across offices
  • Help mentor Associates and Job Captains working toward licensure
  • Promote consistent documentation standards aligned with SVA practice
  • Strengthen collaboration across SVA’s multi-office K-12 teams
