Job Title: Director of Preconstruction
Location: Tampa, FL
Salary Range: $150,000 – $170,000


Position Overview

As the Director of Preconstruction, you will serve as the strategic and operational leader of the Preconstruction Department. You will be responsible for overseeing all estimating activities, guiding business development efforts, and ensuring the successful transition of projects from concept through handoff to operations. This role is critical to the company’s growth and success, requiring a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and client engagement.

You will work closely with the Director of Operations and Director of Business Development to align preconstruction efforts with company goals and market opportunities, while upholding our core values of Creativity, Communication, and Quality.


Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and manage all preconstruction and estimating functions, ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to timelines.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Oversee departmental workload and resource allocation through weekly team meetings and project reviews.
  • Collaborate with business development to evaluate upcoming opportunities and align departmental support accordingly.
  • Coordinate with operations to ensure seamless project transitions and alignment on schedules and responsibilities.
  • Review and approve cost estimates and proposals prior to submission to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks related to cost, schedule, and constructability.
  • Partner with national teams to improve systems, tools, and processes across the division.
  • Provide regular performance evaluations and career development planning for department staff.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance team culture.

Client Engagement & External Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary client contact during the preconstruction phase until a dedicated Preconstruction Manager or Estimator is assigned.
  • Lead or participate in OEC/OAC meetings with clients and internal teams to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
  • Conduct constructability reviews with estimators, operations, and design teams.
  • Provide design and budget feedback to architects, engineers, and owners throughout the preconstruction process.
  • Attend pre-bid site walks and lead internal debriefs to define next steps and responsibilities.
  • Represent the company in client meetings, interviews, and industry events as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, A/E firms, property managers, and subcontractors.
  • Proactively identify risks and develop alternative solutions to maintain project viability and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in preconstruction leadership roles within the construction industry.
  • Strong background in estimating, project planning, and constructability analysis.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and client relationship skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strategic thinker with a collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset.
