Position: Safety Specialist
Location: Myrtle Beach, SC
Salary: $55,000-$75,000
Position Summary
The Safety Specialist supports the Safety Manager in maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive work environment across underground utility construction projects. This role assists with field safety inspections, employee training, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance while promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Field Safety

Conduct routine jobsite inspections and safety observations.

Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.

Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, and toolbox talks.

Monitor compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.

Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and other safety programs.
Training & Development
-
Conduct new hire orientations and safety training.

Reinforce PPE, trenching and excavation, confined space, and equipment safety requirements.

Maintain training records and compliance documentation.
Incident Management
-
Assist with incident, injury, and near-miss investigations.

Gather photos, statements, and documentation.

Track corrective actions to ensure timely resolution.
Compliance & Reporting

Maintain OSHA and company-required safety records.

Assist with safety audits and inspections.

Support preparation of safety reports and metrics.

Ensure required permits, signage, and postings are displayed on job sites.
Safety Culture
-
Promote safe work practices and employee engagement.

Encourage reporting of hazards and safety concerns.
-
Serve as a visible advocate for the company’s safety-first culture.
Qualifications
Education
-
Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
Experience
-
1–3 years of construction safety experience, preferably in underground utilities or heavy civil construction.

Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards.
Skills
-
Strong communication and organizational skills.

Detail-oriented with the ability to document findings accurately.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
Certifications
Required: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
Preferred: First Aid/CPR Certification
Physical Requirements
-
Ability to walk, stand, climb, and work on active construction sites for extended periods.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
-
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
-
Primarily field-based with travel between regional job sites.

Occasional office work for reporting, documentation, and meetings.
