Position: Materials Planner
Location: Charleston, SC
Salary: $55,000-$75,000
Position Summary
The Materials Planner is responsible for managing inventory, procurement, and production planning activities to ensure material availability and on-time customer deliveries. This role works closely with Sales, Customer Service, Production, Quality, Purchasing, and global supply chain teams to optimize inventory levels, improve efficiency, and support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities

Manage material requirements planning (MRP) for raw materials, intermediates, finished goods, and consumables.

Create, schedule, and monitor purchase orders with internal and external suppliers.

Maintain accurate planning and inventory data in SAP.

Coordinate inbound shipments, including overseas containers and warehouse replenishment.

Develop production schedules and determine optimal batch sizes.

Monitor inventory levels and maintain min/max settings.
-
Analyze and report supply chain KPIs, inventory performance, and delivery metrics.

Reduce inventory carrying costs, expired materials, and supply chain waste.

Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.

Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, Shipping, Quality, and global planning teams to meet customer demand and business goals.

Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Qualifications
Required:
-
High School Diploma or GED.
-
2+ years of experience in materials planning, inventory control, purchasing, or supply chain operations.

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field.

SAP or ERP system experience.
-
Manufacturing experience.
-
Knowledge of Lean, 5S, FMEA, or continuous improvement practices.
Physical Requirements
-
Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
-
Frequent walking throughout office and production areas.
-
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments, including chemicals and industrial equipment.

Ability to maintain regular attendance and perform essential job functions safely.
