Position: Staff Accountant
Employment Type: Full-Time/Direct Hire
Location: Myrtle Beach, SC
Salary: $55,000-$85,000 DOE

Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the Controller in maintaining accurate financial records and enhancing accounting processes. This role plays a key part in day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and job cost accounting while contributing to the company’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Support daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll support, and fixed asset tracking

• Prepare and post journal entries with proper documentation

• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in accordance with GAAP and construction industry standards

• Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations

• Assist in preparing internal financial statements and reports

Job Cost Accounting & WIP Reporting

• Support job cost accounting at the task and cost-code level

• Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition

• Review AP postings for proper job and GL classification

• Track over/under billings, retainage, and project margins

• Support AIA billing cycles and documentation

Payroll & Compliance

• Ensure accurate allocation of labor costs to jobs

• Assist with certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage (Davis-Bacon) compliance, as needed

• Maintain audit-ready documentation for regulatory and lender requirements

Audit & Tax Support

• Assist with audit preparation, financial reviews, and supporting schedules

• Coordinate with external tax preparers by gathering required documentation

• Ensure timely and organized recordkeeping throughout the year

Process Improvement & Systems

• Identify opportunities to improve workflows and strengthen internal controls

• Support system implementations, integrations, and onboarding of acquired entities

• Ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

• 2+ years of accounting experience (construction industry experience preferred)

• Working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles

• Familiarity with job cost accounting and construction accounting concepts is a plus

• Experience with accounting or ERP systems

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with a willingness to continue developing advanced skills

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
