In the Middle East, engineering and construction jobs have been hugely in-demand as there are always several projects underway. Therefore, the region has become an ideal location to develop a career in engineering. From mechanical engineers to electrical engineers, there’s a range of Middle East engineering jobs on the rise, and these highly skilled professionals are needed in every project across various regions. Saudia Arabia, for example, is a nation with several projects, including large-scale solar projects that have several different companies involved. Engineering and the built environment as a whole are booming in the Middle East, so what are the latest developments?

Red Sea Project

One of the most recent engineering developments in the Middle East is the innovative bridge installation solution in Saudi Arabia. The Red Sea project is located on Saudi Arabia’s West Coast, between the cities of Al-Wajh and Umluj. It’s a land and property mega project that is being engineered by logistics company Mammoet, and it will have several transportation networks. Also, the project will be constructed by reapplying parts from previous cranes to reduce the environmental impact. Therefore, the engineering team behind the Red Sea Project have prioritised sustainability and ensuring the highest quality output. The overall vision for the Red Sea Project is for it to become an exciting and prosperous tourist destination, and to attract visitors from all around the world.

Duqm Road Project

The Duqm road project is a huge civil engineering and construction project that’s expected to be completed by the end of 2025 with an estimated cost of $350 million. This road project is being engineered based on bidding criteria and this year, ten different companies have submitted bids, including Galfar Engineering and Contracting, as well as United Gulf Construction Co. Evidently, the project is hugely in-demand and the road will run from Duqm Airport to Raz Markaz, and it will include roundabouts and a dual carriageway. The Duqm road project will no doubt provide an uplift for economic relations in the local area, making it one of the key recent engineering developments in the Middle East.

Shamal Development

The Shamal Development is another major engineering project located in Abu Dhabi, between Jebel Ali Port and Mina Zayed. According to research, there was significant groundwork involved, which included the dredging of 16.8 million cm of material and the construction of a detached breakwater. Furthermore, the National Marine Dredging Company won the Shamal Development contract from the AD Ports Group at reportedly a cost of over 1 billion. The project is set to be complete in 2023 and the development will help to expand and boost trade in the Khalifa Port area, cementing its position as one of the biggest logistics and trade hubs. Overall, it’s a complex project that serves as both an exciting infrastructure project and engineering development, which will no doubt pave the way for further engineering jobs in the Middle East.
