Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent / Field Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the project team with on-site management, coordination, and technical oversight of commercial construction projects. This position ensures that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with design documents, schedules, and quality standards. The role bridges field operations and engineering, providing both supervisory and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Coordination
- Assist the Superintendent in managing daily field operations.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and field staff to maintain workflow and productivity.
- Support scheduling and sequencing of construction activities.
- Technical Oversight
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts to ensure accurate execution.
- Perform layout, surveying, and quality checks on installed work.
- Track and document field changes, RFIs, and as-built conditions.
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce company and OSHA safety standards on-site.
- Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and incident reporting.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, permits, and environmental regulations.
- Quality Control
- Monitor workmanship and materials to meet project standards.
- Assist with punch lists, inspections, and close-out documentation.
- Maintain accurate daily logs and reports.
- Communication
- Serve as a liaison between field crews, project managers, and design teams.
- Provide updates on progress, issues, and solutions.
- Support client and stakeholder site visits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 1-3 years post college experience
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Proficiency in project management software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
