Location: Los Alamos, NM
Title: Site Environmental Health & Safety Specialist
Schedule: Full Time
Duration: Contract – 6 months to a year
Schedule: M-Th 7-5:30, occasional Friday and weekend work as required
Pay rate: $35+ per hour DOE

Our Partner, a provider of engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and facility management. is looking for a ES & H Specialist.

Summary of Duties:
Enforces policies and procedures that comply with Federal, state and local requirements and executes their health and safety programs. Maintains and promotes a safe and healthy environment by identifying and anticipating concerns and hazards. Manages on site health and safety program at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for contaminated soil excavation and sampling activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform health and safety training sessions and ensure all personnel entering the site have completed all required training.
• Establishes and maintains contact with NW’s Corporate Health and Safety Director, subcontractor health and safety representatives, managers and supervisors as required to fulfill health and safety commitments on assigned projects.
• Write reports, including accident reports, and collect data/information for entry on recordkeeping forms.
• Conduct inspections and inform an organization’s management of areas not in compliance with State and Federal laws or employer policies.
• Anticipates and provides direction to project personnel on potential industrial hygiene and occupational safety problem areas and evaluates, recommends and implements solutions or corrective actions.
• Analyze work environments and design programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury.
• Addresses chemical, physical, radiological, and/or biological hazards.
Qualifications Required:
• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and remediation site related experience, OR a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
Special Requirements:
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training
• 3 or more years’ experience in a safety oversight role
• Ability to pass U.S. Government employment background check and acquire U.S. Government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential card.
