The Materials Management Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling materials to support engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities. This role ensures materials are properly forecasted, procured, received, stored, issued, and accounted for to meet project schedules, cost controls, and quality requirements. The position collaborates closely with Procurement, Project Controls, Construction, and Logistics teams to ensure timely availability of materials while maintaining compliance with Fluor procedures and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Planning & Control
- Develop and maintain materials management plans aligned with project schedules and execution strategies
- Review engineering deliverables (BOMs, MTOs) to ensure accurate materials forecasting and tracking
- Monitor material status from requisition through delivery and final issue to construction
- Identify material shortages, surpluses, excess, or obsolescence risks and recommend corrective actions
Procurement & Logistics Coordination
- Interface with Procurement to support sourcing strategies, purchase orders, and supplier performance
- Track supplier commitments, deliveries, and expediting activities
- Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics, including freight, customs, and site delivery sequencing
- Support warehouse and yard operations to optimize storage and material flow
Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Ensure proper receipt, inspection, storage, preservation, and issuance of materials
- Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct audits as required
- Implement material handling, preservation, and safety best practices
- Manage surplus, scrap, and warranty materials in accordance with Fluor and client procedures
Systems & Reporting
- Maintain materials data within company systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or Fluor proprietary tools)
- Generate and analyze material status reports, KPIs, and forecasts for project leadership
- Support cost control efforts by tracking material commitments, usage, and variances
Compliance & Collaboration
- Ensure compliance with Fluor policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations
- Support internal and external audits related to materials and inventory
- Collaborate with Construction, Quality, and HSE teams to support safe and efficient site operations
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or related field
(or equivalent experience) - Minimum X+ years of materials management, supply chain, or logistics experience
- Experience supporting EPC, construction, industrial, or capital projects
- Working knowledge of material control processes, inventory management, and logistics
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large‑scale industrial, energy, mining, infrastructure, or manufacturing projects
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with construction site materials operations and warehouse management
- Strong analytical, reporting, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, matrixed project environment
