Renewable energy company is seeking a Civil Engineer to assist on the onshore portion of their wind projects. Will provide design oversight and serve as contact for civil issues. The role is a multi-year contract that can be remotely albeit with visits to client home office in Boston, MA.

Scope of Responsibilities:

• Provide design guidance and technical verification of the onshore civils works, including review of employer’s requirements and technical specifications, act as principal civil engineer for the design and construction phases for substation (OSP), onshore civil works including duct banks, river/highway crossings, etc. (OCP) and Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD).
• Principal contact for contractors and onshore construction team on all civil issues, including on-going civil works testing and QA activities.
• Review and incorporate inputs of soil investigations, geotechnical studies, environmental studies, stakeholder and development considerations in design and tender documents.
• Support micro-siting of onshore export cable routes via duct banks. Work closely with duct bank engineering contractor. Coordinate with other utilities in the public right-of-way; town sewer, independent municipal water service, natural gas, electric distribution, etc.
• Act as lead civil engineer for project(s) interfacing with the DPW and Town collaboratively.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert for all civil engineering activities for onshore works, including trenchless technologies.
• Lead civil-related project workstreams, for example, survey campaigns, subsurface utility investigations.
• Provide permitting (consenting) support; prepare and review drawings, presentation materials, narratives, etc. as needed to support local, state, and federal permitting processes, prepare written or verbal testimony on civil issues.
• Work closely with other team members in the Onshore Package, Construction,
• Commissioning, O&M, the Main Equipment Package, the Export Cable Package and other teams.
• Interface with other technical, development, outreach, commercial, value engineering and other teams on civil issues.
• Participate in design reviews, ad hoc workstreams, due diligence assessments and other cross-discipline huddles on emergent issues and developments.
• Stay up to date on all civil construction trends, industry developments, emergent technologies.
• Provide key and strategic advice, assessment and recommendations to the business providing key knowledge, lessons learned and support to the projects (large packages) throughout the whole life cycle (development to decommissioning) to support the business.
• Coordinate with the HSE team to develop HSE strategy for offshore windfarm delivery and ensure a high standard of health and safety awareness is maintained.
• Ensure all lessons learnt regarding offshore delivery are captured and shared across the different offshore projects (large packages). Establish the right mechanisms for this process and ensuring the teams and project implement them to capture and enhance business value.

Competencies & Soft Skills:

• Strong experience in civil engineering on large, complex, multi-discipline projects.
• Demonstrated experience on electrical power projects; HV or LV substations, power plants, transmission lines, distribution systems, cable systems etc.
• In-depth knowledge of current US standards, guidelines, best practices in civil
• engineering.
• BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and develop key project and business decisions.
• Excellent report writing, presentation skills and ability to summarize key parameters and drivers impacting the project and business.
• Ability to work, manage teams and manage decision making process under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Sound planning and analysis skills with the ability to look forward and see/ anticipate problems and thereafter plan and implement mitigating solutions to negate the effect of such problems.
• Innovative and creative thinking.
• Problem solving – dealing with conflicting requirements.
• Tenacity, persistence, and determination to succeed in overcoming obstacles.
• High capacity for change and experience of leading others through change.
• Balance technical detail with commercial needs and provide recommendations, taking into account all relevant risks.
