We are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity to work for our market-leading client who is looking for a Assistant Maintenance Supervisor on a Contract basis. You will form part of a multi discipline team that are expected to carry out various works to a high quality and safety standard.

Reports To: Engine Room Supervisor or Maintenance Supervisor as appropriate. (See Unit HSEP Shipboard Manual Organisation Chart for local variations)

 

Background: The Assistant Maintenance Supervisor will exhibit good, supervisory and safety behaviours and will specifically ensure that all aspects of Engine Room operation and maintenance are carried out safely, through careful delegation and control of responsibilities.

 

Authority: The Assistant Maintenance Supervisor is specifically responsible for the operation and maintenance of Engine Room equipment and Process utility systems controlled by the Engine Room and also for the guidance and familiarisation of those under his immediate supervision.

 

Immediate Subordinates: Maintenance Operators, Visitors, Vendor Technicians, and sub contractors.

 

Accountable For: Typical Responsibilities & Standards

1) Engine Room Equipment and Systems and Utilities Operation and Maintenance

 

Prepare Engine Room and Utility Systems for start-up.

Start and Monitor Engine Room and Utility Systems

Prepare and Shutdown Engine Room and Utility Systems

Isolate and reinstate Engine Room and Utility Systems for Maintenance

 

2) Manage And Supervise Effectively

Establish effective relationships with colleagues and subcontractors.

Implement scope of work clearly (briefings, toolbox talks, presentations.)

Plan and control use of resources effectively. (Personnel, time, materials, transport, IT) within limit of responsibility

Use of communication skills shows leadership (oral, teambuilding, recording, noting, handover, analysing).

Contribute to On Job Training of subordinates

 

3) Contribute to control of critical situations and respond to emergencies

Developing critical situations (operational, weather, equipment failure, leaks, fires, personnel etc) are identified and logged for later analysis

Positive action is taken to limit escalation and to maintain control using applied policies or procedures or initiative

Supervisor/CCR/OIM are alerted in good time as appropriate

 

4) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures

Sample and check that controlled process discharges from area of responsibility to the environment are within prescribed limits

Identify and halt unplanned discharges where possible, and reported immediately according to policy, procedure and regulation.

Equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure

Resources such as PPE materials tools and spares are not wasted or used inefficiently

 

5) Emergency Response

Carry Out Emergency Response Role

Show competence during drills and exercises.

 

Units Of Competence:

  1. Prepare Engine Room and Utility Systems for start-up.
  2. Start and Monitor Engine Room and Utility Systems
  3. Prepare and Shutdown Engine Room and Utility Systems.
  4. Isolate and reinstate Engine Room and Utility Systems
  5. Contribute to control of critical situations and respond to emergencies
  6. Manage and Supervise Effectively
  7. Monitor And Maintain Pollution Control Measures
  8. Carry out Emergency Response Role
  9. Provide any additional duties as required by the OIM/Unit Spt and /or HOD to maintain safe and efficient running of the Unit.

 

Pre-hire Qualifications and Experience

Qualified to EOOW STCW Reg AIII/1

At least 1-year experience as Watch keeping Marine Engineer (steam turbine watch keeping experience preferable).

VLCC experience preferred.

Medically fit to offshore International standards such as ENG1 or equivalent.

Offshore Survival

Advanced Fire Fighting 

Proficiency in Survival Craft

Personal Skills

Personal: Conscientious. Capable of assertive and positive communication and performance.

Leadership: Good safety and supervisory attitude. Good levels of written and spoken communication in English language. Clear understanding of personnel behavioural and team issues.

Technical: Appropriate standard of supervisory, technical, and professional knowledge as defined by competences.

IT: Practical familiarity with standard ‘Office’ software package. Operation and use of Internet and electronic mail system. Familiarity with Maintenance Management System packages AMOS/Maximo etc.
