This position offers exposure to the full automation lifecycle, from initial design through build, testing, and client handover, and is well suited to an engineer who enjoys hands‑on technical work within a structured engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Design & Programming
- Design, develop, and configure PLC programs, HMI/SCADA interfaces, and I/O architectures for control panels and MCCs.
- Translate client specifications and functional descriptions into reliable automation logic.
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
- Support the selection of automation hardware, instrumentation, and control devices.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation performance, reliability, and build efficiency.
- Work closely with engineering, workshop, wiring, and testing teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Carry out functional testing, fault‑finding, and validation of automation systems.
- Support and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
- Assist with on‑site commissioning and start‑up activities where required.
- Provide technical support during build, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Ensure automation solutions comply with BS EN 61439‑2, BS 7671, and relevant industry standards.
- Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, including PLC code, test records, and manuals.
- Support internal quality reviews, audits, and continuous improvement activities.
- Adhere to all company and statutory Health & Safety procedures.
- Maintain a safe, tidy, and compliant working environment.
Qualifications
Essential
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or Instrumentation
- Solid knowledge of PLC programming and HMI/SCADA systems
- Understanding of BS EN 61439‑2 and electrical compliance requirements
- Electrical safety awareness (safe isolation, workshop H&S)
- Multi‑platform PLC experience (e.g. Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider)
- Experience with intelligent MCCs, withdrawable systems, and Form 1–4 assemblies
- Knowledge of industrial networking, IIoT, or remote monitoring solutions
- Additional training or certification in automation, commissioning, or project delivery
