Lead Electrical Design Engineer

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing multi‑disciplinary design team. This position involves leading electrical design activities across a diverse portfolio of engineering projects, working closely with internal teams, external partners and project stakeholders.

The role reports to the Electrical Design Manager and is responsible for the full lifecycle of electrical design delivery, from concept through to construction support and final documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage project‑specific electrical design deliverables.

  • Produce designs in accordance with internal M&E design quality procedures.

  • Develop detailed electrical designs aligned with project requirements and engineering standards.

  • Interpret client specifications, drawings and technical documentation.

  • Coordinate with clients, external designers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications.

  • Undertake site surveys of existing assets and produce supporting documentation.

  • Carry out optioneering and feasibility studies.

  • Support tendering activities, including pricing and technical input.

  • Prepare procurement specifications for electrical equipment and produce detailed construction drawings.

  • Manage third‑party design packages and provide technical support to installation and commissioning teams.

  • Review vendor control system functional design specifications for compliance.

  • Assess vendor data and drawings for electrical equipment, MCCs, power distribution panels and field equipment.

  • Monitor and manage internal and external design costs in collaboration with the Project Manager.

  • Perform and verify electrical design calculations, including full power system modelling (e.g., AMTECH).

  • Prepare drawings for CAD production and ensure accuracy of design outputs.

  • Contribute to the development of process control philosophies with process engineers and suppliers.

  • Produce electrical scopes of work and enquiry documentation.

  • Estimate material and labour requirements for project delivery.

  • Conduct design risk assessments to support detailed design proposals.

  • Prepare detailed electrical specifications and technical schedules.

  • Produce single‑line diagrams, block cable diagrams, load schedules, equipment schedules, cable schedules, telemetry schedules, instrument schedules and I/O listings.

  • Maintain accurate records of design changes and issue final “as‑built” documentation.

  • Liaise effectively with clients, subcontractors and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant electrical engineering qualification or equivalent experience.

  • Chartered Engineer status is advantageous but not essential.

  • Strong background in electrical design within complex engineering environments.

  • Experience leading design activities across multi‑disciplinary projects.
