Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer or EIT provides technical expertise in the design, analysis, and execution of electrical engineering deliverables for industrial, energy, mining, infrastructure, and oil & gas projects. This role is responsible for performing advanced power system studies, developing electrical design documentation, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and Fluor procedures. The Electrical Engineer works collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams and contributes to projects throughout the engineering and design lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Design
- Develop electrical engineering design documents, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
- Prepare electrical equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, motor schematics, wiring diagrams, and associated engineering deliverables.
- Develop hazardous area classifications and supporting documentation.
- Support electrical system design activities from conceptual design through detailed engineering and construction support.
- Review and verify design deliverables for technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
- Perform and lead complex electrical system studies, including:
- Short circuit studies
- Load flow analysis
- Power system stability studies
- Motor starting studies
- Harmonic analysis
- Protective relay coordination studies
- Ground grid studies
- Evaluate electrical system performance and recommend corrective actions or design improvements.
- Perform detailed electrical calculations, including:
- Short circuit calculations
- Relay coordination analysis
- Voltage drop calculations
- Cable derating calculations
- Cable pulling tension calculations
- Ensure designs meet applicable safety, reliability, and operational requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and junior engineers.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and technical discussions.
- Interface with clients, vendors, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure successful project execution.
- Support procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities as required.
- Utilize power system analysis and electrical design software, including:
- Hexagon Smart® Electrical
- ETAP (Electrical Transient Analyzer Program)
- SKM Power Tools
- Other industry-standard engineering software
- Work effectively with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems, procedures, and design teams.
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical engineering design and power system analysis within industrial, energy, mining, infrastructure, or oil & gas projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, standards, and industry best practices.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Advanced understanding of electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
- Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, Hexagon Smart® Electrical, or similar electrical engineering software.
- Ability to perform complex power system studies and electrical engineering calculations.
- Ability to prepare and review electrical design documentation, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Basic understanding of CAD systems and engineering drawing practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project environment.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration.
- Experience executing EPC, EPCM, or large-scale industrial projects.
- Experience supporting projects through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
- Knowledge of Fluor engineering practices, procedures, and quality standards.
