TRS Staffing is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join a growing consultancy on a contract basis. The position I located in Surrey on a hybrid work structure and falls outside IR35. The successful candidate will initially be responsible for the electrical evaluation and scope definition and will continue to play a key role in a PMC (Project Management Consultant) capacity during the execution/construction phase.
Evaluation and Scope Definition:
• Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the existing electrical systems, including control systems and electrical distribution infrastructure.
• Define the scope of work required for the repair/replacement of electrical systems. Identify areas for improvement and propose appropriate solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and align project objectives.
Design and Engineering:
• Develop detailed engineering designs and specifications for electrical systems. Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimize design solutions.
• Perform electrical load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and coordination studies.
Procurement and Construction Support:
• Provide technical guidance during the procurement phase, including bid evaluation and vendor selection for electrical equipment.
• Review and approve vendor documentation, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
• Collaborate with construction teams to ensure proper installation and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Conduct site inspections and quality control checks to verify compliance with design specifications.
Project Management:
• Assist in the development of project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans for electrical activities.
• Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and successful project execution for electrical systems.
• Provide regular project updates to management and other project stakeholders.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
Extensive relevant experience in electrical engineering within the energy or oil and gas industry.
Previous experience with gas turbines, control systems, and electrical distribution is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices. Proficiency in electrical design software and simulation tools.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, NEC, IEEE).
Experience with power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, and protection schemes. Solid understanding of electrical control systems, PLCs, and SCADA.
Project Management Skills:
Demonstrated experience in project evaluation, scope definition, and execution for electrical systems.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet project deadlines.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
