Service Foreman

Summary

This position assists and supports others in a department, subdivision, function, or project.  The position relies primarily on established policies, procedures, and applicable work practices to make decisions as they apply to the job duties and responsibilities.

Scope

The primary purpose of this position is to perform mechanical functions relative to all types of construction equipment as well as oversee, train, and direct the work of equipment technicians and others in the department.  This position typically reports to the Branch Manager.  This position operates with minimal supervision and usually directly supervises all or functional sections of the Service Department.

Responsibilities
 
  • Communicate with customers concerning repair and service needs; this communication is frequent and critical.  
  • Direct scheduling of service work from Rental Department, salesmen and walk-in customers.
  • Maintain good member relations by consistently applying HR, Safety and Quality policies and practices, including training, and developing each member.
  • Maintain or complete records associated with established equipment repair practices, preventive maintenance programs or warranty information; monitor others to ensure they are accurately completing the same.
  • Perform major (non-routine) service repairs to customer and company owned equipment.
  • Perform routine safety checks of shop equipment, tools, and work areas.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and global standards.
  • Plan, organize, and carry out assignments as directed.
  • Adhere to and support Client’s Health, Safety & Environmental and Sustainability Policies.
  • Effectively develop and apply the Core Skills to the job.
  • Meet expectations on attendance and punctuality.

Qualifications
 
  • A combination of education and directly related experience equal to eight (8) years.
  • Red Seal Heavy Duty or Red Seal Automotive ticket, Millwright exp an asset.
  • A Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role or equivalent is required.
  • Valid Driver’s license, Class 3 an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.   
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.  
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.  
  • Can quickly identify problem solutions, evaluate alternative causes and produce workable solutions and work positively within a team to achieve a common goal.
  • Be able to work weekends to meet business needs when required.  




Working Conditions
 
  • Generally favorable indoor office workspace, and/or outdoor.
  • Various levels of environmental conditions including but not limited to project worksites and vendor/client facilities which may have temporary office space, moving mechanical parts and vibration; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and extreme temperatures and high noise levels.
