Tool Engineering Specialist
North Charleston, SC

Full time/Direct hire
Compensation: $70,000-85,000 doe

Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Plans, directs, develops and coordinates deployment and maintenance of Die cast tooling.
• Co-ordination with design, program, and tool rooms for achieving quality, delivery, and cost targets for new die and tooling development.
• Develops, evaluates, and improves die casting tooling by creating and implementing SCL purchasing specifications for new casting tooling.
• Product quotations - Reviews product engineering prints and specifications, Analyzes and puts forward an estimate / plan for die costs and timing estimation of new dies. Implementation of cost reduction projects for dies, through alternate material, process and sources for die manufacturing.
• Support business development, and design change implementation in new products dies.
• Responsible for manufacturing quality of NPD dies. Perform die inspection, quality checks prior to shipment of dies to SCL.
• Benchmark competitor dies for best practices in die design and manufacturing. Work closely with die design team to implement best practices.
• Manage daily shift manufacturing assignments and post shift assignments visibly prior to shift start. balances quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas
• Ensure effective employee relations. Provides employee coaching and development, assist in making employment decisions, and resolves employee’s issues using a variety of problem resolutions techniques.
• Ensure full compliance with shop health and safety policies and performs accident investigations
• Be visible on the production floor, to assist the production floor * Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Complete shift labor edits accurately on a daily basis.
• Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering from four-year college or university, with four to six years related experience or six to eight years related experience and high school diploma or G.E.D., or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, ability to read and understand product prints and specification, AUTOCAD, AIAG Standards
• Working knowledge of Solidification models (MAGMA, EKK etc.)
• Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Understands safety policies, quality policy and environmental policies.
• Ability to analyze die & process problems and implement repairs & countermeasures for:
o Hydraulic cylinder issues
o Mechanical aptitude
o Ability to weld & hard finish.
o Demonstrate solid “Troubleshooting” skills.
o General computer/data entry skills.
o General electrical troubleshooting.
o General machine tool knowledge.
o Understanding of 2D drawings.
o Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic functions and components.
o Ability to demonstrate a proactive approach with die maintenance and Ability to troubleshoot.

Required work authorization
Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, daily overtime and off shifts as needed.
