We have an opportunity for a Project Engineer to direct, manage, and coordinate new plastic product development per new and existing customer requirements.
Primary responsibilities include the following:
Plans and implements engineering programs per customer requirements.
Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for assigned engineering projects, and controls expenditures within budget limitations.
Coordinates preparation and delivery of project scope, design documents, and bid packages.
Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of projects, including technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.
Reviews product design and offers design assistance to customers in compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
Conducts Design for Manufacturability (DFM) assessments utilizing Moldflow or Moldex3D.
Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
Directs the integration of technical activities and products.
Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
Provides status and progress reports to customers, project team, and management on project milestones, and adjusts schedules as needed to ensure customer needs are met.
Prepares interim reports and completion project report summaries.
Assists with Manufacturing Engineering activities on the production floor as needs dictate.
Represents the company with customers and vendors in a professional manner.
Supports, follows and promotes all established safety policies and procedures.
Supports the Continuous Improvement initiatives of the company.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge via educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in applicable professional societies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Working Conditions:
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required. Plastics emphasis is highly desired.
2-5 years of plastics injection molding industry experience is required. Experience in a project engineering position with demonstrated growth in injection molding is required. Tooling background a plus.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, vendors, and employees of the organization. Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
Must be able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, and the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Advanced computer proficiency in a Windows environment is required, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and MS Project. Experience with IQMS or related integrated manufacturing software is strongly preferred. Proficiency with Solidworks/CAD is strongly preferred. Must be able to learn new software.
Must have knowledge of various thermoplastic materials and possess sufficient knowledge to make resin recommendations. Experience with Moldflow or Moldex 3D is highly desirable.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the office work environment is low; when applicable the noise level in the production work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.
This position works onsite daily at our client’s main office in Manitowoc, WI. Remote work option is not available on a regular basis.
