The ideal candidate for this position will or will be:
Facilitate the transfer of hazardous materials and acids from railcar into terminal tank storage, pipeline and/or tank truck. Specifically, preforming equipment inspections, making coupler/hose connections, climbing rail cars ensure proper venting, coordinating w/ applicable customers, railroad and regulatory agencies
Responsible for bulk liquid transfers – opening and closing large gate valves, walking throughout the plant on uneven surfaces/gravel/rock/grass and climbing stairs/catwalks/vertical ladders
Operate various style pumps and troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance/repairs
Perform maintenance using hand tools, moving heavy valves/pipes, etc.
Prepare the rail tank cars for loading
Participation in hazardous material handling and safety training programs, which may require brief and occasional travel.
Transload Operations
Climbing onto railcars, operating straps, opening and closing railcar doors, and operating with ramps.
Completing inventory documentation, shipping papers, and other documentation.
Stacking and banding material as necessary. Make sure correct material arrived and correct material is shipped out. Operate other equipment as necessary.
Switching Operations
Working within a switch crew to perform safe railcar switching movements including, inspection of railcars, understanding and determining car movements, operating switches, watching for obstructions, climbing ladders onto railcars, operating handbrakes, riding on railcars and locomotives, using and understanding radio communications and hand
3-6 months rail experience (loading, offloading moving rail cars)
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Forklift/Mobile equipment experience preferred.
• Experience with DOT, OSHA, and all related safety regulations preferred.
• Must have strong time management skills.
• Excellent and effective communication skills (verbal and written).
• Must be willing to accept accountability and work well within a team.
• Must be able to work effectively under pressure and perform duties under stressful situations.
• Strong attention to detail required.
• Ability to understand and convey verbal and written work and safety related instructions and procedures given in English.
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer skills
• Understanding of chemical processes
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently move up to 50 pounds.
• Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and as needed respirator, protective clothing and gloves.
• Ability to climb ladders and stairs multiple times per shift.
• Must be proficient on the use of hand, power tools and equipment. Mechanical aptitude helpful. Must have a good attendance record and an ability to be to work on time. Must maintain a clean and safe yard and car repair environment
• MUST be able to work outdoors in ALL types of weather.
