Our client is a leading EPC contractor delivering large‑scale energy and infrastructure projects across the UK. This role supports the delivery of a major onshore substation project. This role is based in Murton on an initial one-year contract outside of IR35.
The Civil Construction Engineer will be responsible for coordinating all civil construction activities on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and in line with project specifications, quality standards, and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Construction & Site Management

Coordinate all civil construction activities related to the onshore substation, including:

Site preparation and earthworks
-
Foundations and concrete works
-
Buildings and structures
-
Access roads
-
Drainage systems and utilities
-

Coordinate daily site activities to ensure efficient sequencing of works and optimal resource utilisation.

Monitor progress against programme and proactively address delays or risks.
Planning & Coordination
-
Develop and implement construction plans, schedules, and resource requirements in collaboration with project management and engineering teams.

Review construction methodologies to ensure practicality, safety, and compliance with project objectives.
Health, Safety & Environment
-
Ensure full compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, standards, and company policies.

Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.

Promote a strong safety culture and intervene where unsafe practices are identified.
Technical & Quality Assurance

Review civil construction drawings, method statements, risk assessments, and permits to work.

Ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
Commercial & Reporting

Support the management of civil construction budgets and cost control.

Track progress and report on schedule, costs, risks, and change management.

Maintain accurate site documentation including daily reports, progress updates, and change orders.
Qualifications
-
Relevant degree, HNC/HND, or recognised qualification in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

Valid SMSTS (or equivalent) certification.
-
CSCS card (Supervisor or Manager level).
Experience
-
Proven experience supervising civil works on major infrastructure, energy, or industrial projects.

Demonstrable experience within an EPC project environment.

Experience on onshore substations or high‑voltage infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

Strong knowledge of UK construction health, safety, and environmental regulations.
