Client is looking for Civil Structural Engineer
Project Type: Brownfield | EPC | PMC | Petrochemical Plant | Turnaround (TA) | Furnaces
Location: Jubail, Saudi Arabia
Requirements/Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 13+ years of experience in civil/structural engineering within ethylene/petrochemical plants
- Prior Saudi Arabia project experience is a MUST
- Proven expertise in brownfield projects, furnace foundations/structures, and equipment/pipe rack modifications
- Strong knowledge of international codes/standards: ACI, AISC, ASCE, UBC/IBC, API 650/610 interfaces, and Saudi building/industrial regulations
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design (e.g., STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000) and foundation design (mat, pile, pedestal)
- Experience with laser scanning/as-builts, clash/constructability reviews, and live-plant SIMOPS
- Familiarity with turnaround (TA) planning/execution, heavy lifts, temporary works, and cutover sequencing
- Understanding of seismic, wind, thermal, vibration, and dynamic load effects on structures/equipment
- Strong HSE mindset and permit-to-work knowledge for operating facilities
Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute civil/structural scope for brownfield projects in operating ethylene/petrochemical plants, ensuring safe integration with existing assets
- Design and review furnace-related civil/structural works, including:
- Furnace foundations, steel structures, access platforms, stacks, and piers
- Burner/coil access, duct supports, chimney/stacks with thermal expansion and vibration allowances
- Execute equipment and facility upgrades, including:
- CGC (Cracked Gas Compressor) foundations and inertia blocks, dynamic analysis, grout details
- Pump foundations and alignment (API interfaces), baseplate/anchor bolt design
- Column foundations and structural supports, platforms, ladders, and fall protection
- Pipe racks, sleepers, supports, and tie-ins for new/modified lines (allowing thermal movement and flexibility)
- Develop and approve engineering deliverables: design calculations, GA drawings, rebar detailing, connection details, anchor bolt layouts, layout plans, and method statements
- Perform structural integrity assessments of existing facilities; define reinforcement/retrofit solutions (jacketing, FRP/steel plating, underpinning, micro-piles)
- Conduct site surveys, as-built updates, and constructability reviews in congested brownfield areas; coordinate temporary works (scaffolding, shoring, lifting frames)
- Prepare civil work packs for TA: sequencing, isolations, excavation/shoring, concrete pour plans, curing, inspections, and restoration
- Interface with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical/Instrument, and Construction teams to resolve clashes and optimize routes/supports
- Ensure compliance with Saudi regulations, company standards, and HSE protocols; lead risk assessments (HIRA/JSA) and lift plans for heavy equipment
- Oversee QA/QC for civil/structural works: material approvals, concrete/mortar/grout testing, weld inspections, bolting torque, coatings, and as-built documentation
- Support commissioning/start-up: access provisions, egress/fire safety, drainage, paving, and final punch-list closure
