Position Summary
The Safety Leadership & Development Manager will play a critical role in building and sustaining safety leadership capability across the enterprise. This individual will be responsible for developing structured career pathways, standardizing onboarding programs, creating world-class leadership development initiatives, and strengthening Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) capabilities throughout the organization.
This role partners closely with Safety, Operations, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership to ensure safety professionals and operational leaders are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and leadership capabilities necessary to drive a world-class safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership Development & Training
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive Safety Competency Model for all safety roles and leadership levels.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve leadership development programs for safety professionals across the organization.
- Create structured learning pathways that support career growth and succession planning.
- Develop and facilitate training programs that build future safety leaders.
Organizational Development
- Standardize onboarding processes for safety professionals across all regions.
- Build and sustain career architecture and progression pathways for safety team members.
- Partner with Human Resources and operational leadership to develop succession plans and leadership pipelines.
- Support the onboarding and development of regional safety leaders through structured mentoring and coaching programs.
Human & Organizational Performance (HOP)
- Expand and strengthen Human & Organizational Performance capabilities throughout the enterprise.
- Integrate HOP principles into training programs, leadership development initiatives, and operational practices.
- Promote continuous learning and improvement through proactive safety leadership strategies.
Curriculum Development
- Design and implement leadership curriculum for:
- Foremen
- General Foremen
- Project Managers
- Project Engineers
- Develop engineering-focused hazard awareness training programs.
- Ensure all training materials align with enterprise safety standards and organizational objectives.
Governance & Program Oversight
- Serve as the enterprise custodian for all safety training programs.
- Provide governance, oversight, and quality assurance for regional safety training initiatives.
- Ensure consistency and effectiveness of training delivery across business units and geographic regions.
- Monitor program performance and recommend improvements based on organizational needs and industry best practices.
Engagement & Mentorship
- Lead Safety Leadership Summits and enterprise-wide capability-building events.
- Establish and manage mentorship programs connecting emerging leaders with experienced safety professionals.
- Facilitate workshops, coaching sessions, and leadership forums that promote professional growth and knowledge sharing.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, development, and safety excellence.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, Learning & Development, Occupational Safety, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in leadership development, organizational learning, training, or workforce development.
- Experience designing and implementing structured training and leadership development programs.
- Background in construction, engineering, industrial, manufacturing, or safety-focused environments is highly desirable.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
- Working knowledge of Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and applications.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with HR, Talent Management, Operations, and Safety Leadership teams.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, presentation, and coaching skills.
- Strong program management and organizational development capabilities.
- Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading enterprise-wide leadership development initiatives.
- Experience building competency models, career pathways, and succession planning programs.
- Professional certifications in training, organizational development, coaching, safety, or leadership development are a plus.
