Overview
TRS Staffing Solutions is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support refinery and industrial capital projects in the Pacific Northwest. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with experience in refining, oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments who is looking to contribute to complex facility upgrades, maintenance projects, and capital improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team and be responsible for developing electrical designs, performing engineering calculations, preparing project deliverables, and supporting construction and commissioning activities. This role offers direct exposure to operating industrial facilities and opportunities for professional growth in a collaborative project environment.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Design
- Develop electrical engineering packages including:
- One-line diagrams
- Wiring schematics
- Lighting layouts
- Grounding systems
- Construction work packages
- Perform:
- Load calculations
- Voltage drop calculations
- Conduit and cable sizing
- Grounding and lighting design
- Develop electrical specifications and technical documentation for equipment and system modifications.
- Assemble engineering and construction work packages for review and approval.
- Support low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems.
- Perform engineering studies and analyses including:
- Arc flash studies
- Short-circuit studies
- Protective device coordination
- Support hazardous area classification reviews and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, API, and industry electrical safety standards.
- Develop scopes of work and support project planning efforts.
- Prepare material requisitions and review vendor submittals.
- Generate material takeoffs and support cost estimating activities.
- Assist with project budgeting and schedule development.
- Respond to RFIs and provide technical support during construction activities.
- Support commissioning, startup, and facility turnaround projects.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, vendors, and field personnel.
- Participate in project meetings and design reviews.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Review project deliverables for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Promote a strong safety culture and commitment to zero incidents.
- Ensure compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.
- Deliver quality work while maintaining project schedules and budget commitments.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5+ years of Electrical Engineering experience.
- Experience supporting:
- Refining
- Oil & Gas
- Petrochemical
- Energy
- Heavy Industrial facilities
- Experience developing:
- One-line diagrams
- Wiring schematics
- Electrical calculations
- Technical specifications
- Experience with:
- Hazardous area classifications
- Power distribution systems
- Grounding systems
- Lighting systems
- Working knowledge of:
- NEC
- NFPA
- IEEE
- API standards
- Experience performing:
- Load calculations
- Voltage drop analysis
- Cable sizing
- Conduit sizing
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Bluebeam
- ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience working directly with vendors and clients.
- Ability to manage schedules and project priorities effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or actively pursuing licensure.
- Experience working onsite at refineries or heavy industrial facilities.
- Experience supporting brownfield projects and facility upgrades.
- Familiarity with power systems analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower.
- Previous EPC/EPCM project experience.
Work Schedule
Hybrid Schedule
- Tuesday through Thursday onsite in Ferndale, WA
- Monday and Friday remote
- Frequent travel to nearby refinery and industrial facilities.
- Local site visits and project meetings required.
- Minimal overnight travel anticipated.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC Card.
- Ability to obtain required site-specific safety training and badges.
- Successful completion of background screening.
- Participation in drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
