Overview
TRS Staffing Solutions is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support major refining and industrial capital projects in the Pacific Northwest. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in refinery, oil & gas, or heavy industrial facilities who enjoys working on complex electrical systems from concept through construction and startup.
The successful candidate will be responsible for electrical design, analysis, specification development, equipment selection, and project execution while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
This position offers the opportunity to lead projects, interface directly with clients, and contribute to critical facility upgrades and capital improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Design
- Develop electrical engineering packages including one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and electrical design deliverables.
- Perform load calculations, voltage drop studies, conduit and cable sizing, grounding system design, and lighting design.
- Support the design and modification of low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems.
- Develop electrical calculations, technical reports, and equipment specifications.
- Prepare material requisitions and support technical bid evaluations.
- Develop hazardous area classification documentation and analyses.
- Ensure designs comply with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, API, and other applicable industry standards.
- Perform power system studies, including:
- Arc flash analysis
- Short-circuit studies
- Protective device coordination
- Equipment evaluations
- Utilize software such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower to support electrical system analysis.
- Develop scopes of work and technical specifications for electrical systems and modifications.
- Prepare engineering estimates and support project proposals.
- Generate material quantity takeoffs and support project budgeting efforts.
- Maintain project schedules and budget commitments.
- Respond to RFIs and provide engineering support during construction.
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Participate in client meetings, project reviews, and design discussions.
- Support project construction, commissioning, startup activities, and facility turnarounds.
- Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy and quality.
- Promote a strong safety culture and commitment to zero incidents.
- Ensure compliance with client, company, and industry safety requirements.
- Support continuous improvement and quality assurance efforts throughout project execution.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8-10+ years of electrical engineering experience supporting:
- Refining
- Oil & Gas
- Petrochemical
- Energy
- Heavy Industrial facilities
- Experience with hazardous area classification and electrical design for classified locations.
- Strong understanding of:
- NEC
- NFPA
- IEEE
- API Standards
- NFPA 70E
- Experience developing:
- One-line diagrams
- Wiring schematics
- Electrical specifications
- Engineering calculations
- Experience with:
- Low-voltage systems
- Medium-voltage systems
- Power distribution systems
- Grounding systems
- Lighting systems
- ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower preferred.
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bluebeam.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work directly with clients, vendors, and project teams.
- Experience managing budgets, schedules, and project deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required/preferred.
- Experience working onsite in refinery or heavy industrial environments.
- Experience supporting brownfield facility upgrades and capital projects.
- Previous EPC/EPCM project experience.
- Strong background in commissioning, startup, and turnaround support.
Work Schedule
Hybrid Schedule
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday onsite in Ferndale, WA
- Monday and Friday remote
- Local travel approximately one day per week for meetings and site support.
- Less than 10% overnight travel.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC Card.
- Ability to obtain required site safety certifications and badges.
- HHFT Safety Training certification or ability to obtain.
- Successful completion of background screening.
- Participation in random drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
