Client is looking for Instrument Engineer
Project Type: Brownfield | EPC | PMC | Petrochemical Plant | Turnaround (TA) | Furnaces
Location: Jubail, Saudi Arabia
Requirements/Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Control Systems, or Chemical Engineering
- 13+ years of experience in instrumentation & controls within ethylene/petrochemical plants
- Prior Saudi Arabia project experience is a MUST
- Proven expertise in brownfield projects, furnace instrumentation, and equipment modifications
- Strong knowledge of DCS/ESD/SIS/PLC systems (selection, configuration, integration)
- Hands-on experience with field instrumentation: flow, pressure, temperature, level transmitters; analyzers (e.g., GC), control valves, shutdown valves, relief devices
- Proficient in instrument index, I/O lists, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, and cause & effect (C&E)
- Familiarity with turnaround (TA) planning/execution, pre-commissioning & commissioning, loop-checking
- Hazardous area compliance (e.g., ATEX/IECEx, Ex d/e/n/p/i) and IEC/ISA standards
- Knowledge of HSE and permit-to-work systems for live plant interventions
- Excellent coordination skills with process, mechanical, electrical, and construction teams
Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute brownfield instrumentation scope within operating ethylene/petrochemical plants (hot work/cold work planning, tie-ins, isolation, and restoration)
- Oversee furnace instrumentation (burner management systems, flame detection, draft/pressure/temperature instruments, fuel gas systems) and ensure safe integration with ESD/SIS
- Lead modifications and upgrades to instrumentation on:
- CGC (Cracked Gas Compressor): vibration/temperature monitoring, anti-surge controls, performance instrumentation
- Pumps: seal systems, flow/pressure/temperature instruments, condition monitoring
- Columns: level, pressure, temperature instrumentation, analyzers, control valve sizing & tuning
- Develop and review C&E matrices, SIL assessments, interlock narratives, and shutdown keys in coordination with Process Controls
- Implement DCS/ESD/SIS/PLC upgrades (hardware/software migration, marshalling, I/O mapping, FAT/SAT, cutover planning)
- Prepare and approve engineering deliverables: datasheets, specifications, hook-ups, wiring, cable schedules, instrument location plans, JB layouts, and installation details
- Conduct site surveys, as-built updates, clash checks, and constructability reviews for brownfield works
- Support Turnarounds (TA): job packs, pre-shutdown checks, loop checks, calibration, commissioning/start-up, punch list closure
- Ensure compliance with Saudi regulations, company standards, and HSE protocols; lead/facilitate risk assessments (HIRA/JSA) for live plant work
- Manage vendors (FAT/SAT, technical queries, field assistance) and ensure quality control of installation, testing, and documentation
- Provide on-site troubleshooting and optimization of control loops, instrument reliability, and alarm management
