Electrical Lead - Data Center Construction

Location: Borden County, TX (Near Lubbock, TX)
Employment Type: Contract or Direct Hire

SB Energy is seeking an experienced Electrical Lead to oversee electrical power infrastructure for hyperscale data center construction projects. This individual will serve as the Owner's on-site representative for electrical systems and will manage the electrical scope from design through construction, commissioning, and turnover.

This role is ideal for candidates with strong experience in mission-critical, industrial, power generation, manufacturing, utility, or large-scale construction environments. While data center experience is preferred, candidates with a strong electrical construction background from related industries will be considered.

Position Summary

The Electrical Lead is responsible for ensuring electrical systems are designed, installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with project requirements, safety standards, schedules, budgets, and long-term operational reliability objectives.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal project teams, engineering consultants, contractors, utilities, and commissioning teams to drive successful project execution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage electrical scope throughout project phases including concept design, detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants, utility providers, contractors, and owner stakeholders regarding:
    • Medium-voltage (MV) distribution systems
    • Low-voltage (LV) distribution systems
    • Backup generation systems
    • UPS systems
    • Critical power infrastructure
  • Review electrical design deliverables for compliance with owner standards, tenant requirements, constructability, and applicable codes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between SB Energy and external electrical engineering firms.
  • Coordinate electrical activities with mechanical, structural, and commissioning teams.
  • Review and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and field issues.
  • Serve as the Owner's on-site electrical representative during construction.
  • Monitor contractor safety, quality, schedule adherence, and cost performance.
  • Participate in site inspections, testing activities, and project meetings.
  • Validate electrical pay applications and change order pricing.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, procurement planning, and cost management.
  • Support project scheduling with emphasis on electrical milestones and long-lead equipment.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities including testing, system validation, startup, and turnover documentation.
  • Work closely with third-party commissioning providers and operations teams.
  • Identify risks associated with power delivery, procurement, and constructability and develop mitigation plans.
  • Mentor project engineers and support cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, project engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • MV/LV electrical distribution systems
    • Backup power systems
    • Generators and UPS systems
    • NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and related electrical codes
  • Experience coordinating with external engineering firms and contractors.
  • Experience supporting large-scale industrial, manufacturing, power, utility, mission-critical, or data center projects.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities.

Compensation & Work Arrangements

Contract Opportunity

  • 100% onsite in Borden County, TX
  • Current schedule is 40 hours per week, with overtime available as project demands increase
  • Per diem available: $178/day (7 days per week)
  • Phone allowance: $85/month
  • Mobilization and demobilization assistance provided
  • Opportunity for future conversion to direct hire

Direct Hire Opportunity

  • Salary guideline: $115,000 - $165,000
  • Flexibility available for strong candidates
  • Annual bonus eligibility
  • Full benefits package
  • Hybrid schedule may be considered depending on candidate location and business needs
  • Candidates interested in hybrid arrangements should specify what schedule they can realistically support (example: 2 days onsite weekly, alternating weeks onsite, etc.)
  • Direct employees are not eligible for per diem

Additional Hiring Manager Feedback

  • Craig has expressed a preference for hiring contractors initially, with potential conversion opportunities later.
  • Data center experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong backgrounds in electrical construction, power generation, utilities, industrial facilities, manufacturing, EPC, mission-critical, and large-scale construction projects are highly transferable.
  • Candidates with experience supporting complex electrical infrastructure projects should be considered even if they have not worked directly on data centers.
  • Schedule is currently 40 hours per week, with overtime expected as project activity increases.
  • Contractors are eligible for per diem; direct hires are not, but hybrid flexibility may be available.
