We are looking for an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) with authorisation up to 66kV to support switching, safety documentation, and operational control across high‑voltage distribution and substation environments. The role involves ensuring safe systems of work, managing permits, and overseeing HV operations in line with statutory requirements and network procedures.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out HV switching operations up to 66kV in accordance with network safety rules and operational procedures.

Prepare, issue, and cancel safety documentation including Permits to Work, Sanctions for Test, and Limitation of Access.

Act as the controlling SAP for planned and unplanned HV works, ensuring safe isolation and energisation of equipment.

Oversee contractors and site teams to ensure compliance with safety rules, CDM regulations, and project requirements.

Support commissioning, testing, and energisation activities on substations, switchgear, transformers, and associated HV plant.

Conduct site audits, risk assessments, and method statement reviews to maintain high safety and operational standards.

Liaise with project managers, engineers, and control rooms to coordinate outages, switching schedules, and work programmes.

Provide technical guidance on HV systems, protection interfaces, and operational constraints.
Required Experience
-
Current or previous authorisation as a SAP up to 33kV, 66kV, or above (DNO, IDNO, ICP, TSO, or private network).

Strong background in HV distribution networks, substations, or large industrial HV systems.

Experience issuing safety documentation and managing HV isolations.

Solid understanding of HV protection, switchgear operation, and network configuration.

Knowledge of relevant legislation including EAWR, HSE guidance, and CDM 2015.

Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage site teams and contractors safely.
Desirable
-
Experience on new‑build substations, grid connections, renewables, or large infrastructure projects.

Competence in commissioning or testing HV equipment.

Familiarity with DNO/TSO procedures (UKPN, SSEN, SPEN, NGED, National Grid).
