The Senior Contracts Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight for complex, high‑value contracts across multiple commercial models, including lump sum, reimbursable cost, and unit price agreements. This position is in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
Serving as a trusted advisor and senior commercial leader, this role is responsible for ensuring contractual compliance, mitigating risk, and driving proactive claims avoidance strategies throughout the full contract lifecycle. The position requires deep expertise in contract law, advanced commercial acumen, and the ability to shape and execute contracting strategies that align with both organizational and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Contract Management
- Lead the administration of multiple large‑scale, complex contracts from formation through close‑out
- Ensure full compliance with contractual terms, client requirements, and governing laws
- Provide strategic contractual guidance across all project phases
Complex Project & Commercial Leadership
- Oversee major offsite and onsite module contracts under unit rate and reimbursable models
- Ensure alignment between contracts, execution plans, and project delivery strategies
- Develop and implement contracting strategies that optimize commercial value and minimize risk
Risk & Claims Management
- Identify, assess, and manage contractual and commercial risks
- Implement robust claims prevention programs
- Lead fair, timely, and effective resolution of disputes and claims
Contract Formation & Negotiation
- Direct negotiations of complex commercial terms and conditions
- Draft and review special contract terms, amendments, and flow‑down provisions
- Secure legal approvals and ensure enforceability of contractual documents
Performance Oversight
- Monitor contractor performance, schedule adherence, change management, and invoicing accuracy
- Maintain contractual integrity through disciplined administration and governance
Client Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent client and organizational interests in all contractual matters
- Safeguard compliance with prime contract obligations and commercial outcomes
- Collaborate closely with project management, legal, engineering, procurement, and finance teams
Governance, Reporting & Leadership
- Deliver executive‑level reporting on contract health, risk exposure, and commercial performance
- Lead and mentor contract management teams
- Drive capability building through training and best‑practice standardization
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, or a related field
- MBA or Juris Doctor (JD) strongly preferred
Experience
- 15+ years of progressive contract management experience, including senior leadership roles
- Proven experience supporting major EPC or LSTK projects
- Strong knowledge of Canadian Contract Law and global commercial principles
Technical Expertise
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi‑contract portfolios across varied pricing structures
- Extensive experience in claims avoidance, dispute resolution, and commercial risk management
