Mechanical Engineer (Intermediate–Senior Level)
Location: Nisku, Alberta (Edmonton)
Employment Type: Full‑Time
Our client is a well‑established engineering and manufacturing organization supporting projects primarily within the energy and industrial sectors. They are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their Mechanical Engineering team and contribute to the design, certification, and execution of vessels, piping, and related mechanical systems.
This role reports to the Engineering Manager and works closely with multidisciplinary project teams throughout all phases of project development.
Position Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for developing engineering drawings, performing calculations, and supporting certification activities for pressure vessels, piping systems, and associated equipment. You will collaborate closely with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Estimating, Drafting, Quality Control, and Fabrication teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Engineers/Managers, Drafting, Quality Assurance, and Fabrication teams in the development of accurate engineering drawings and calculations for:
- Pressure vessels
- Pressure piping
- Skids, supports, and related mechanical systems
- Prepare and/or review design packages submitted to regulatory authorities for CRN approval of pressure vessels and piping systems
- Develop, review, and implement welding procedures
- Participate in ABSA and ASME audits, certifications, and renewals
- Interpret and provide guidance on:
- Client specifications
- Applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain and update internal engineering standards and specifications
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and innovations, and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement
- Perform additional engineering and project‑related tasks as required
Tools, Systems & Software
- Engineering and design tools including:
- AutoCAD
- Compress
- Caesar II (piping stress analysis)
- Inventor
- Pro/Engineer
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Estimating and equipment sizing software
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily office‑based work environment
- Occasional visits to fabrication facilities requiring appropriate PPE
- Prolonged periods of computer‑based work reviewing drawings and calculations
- Occasional travel within the Province of Alberta
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university
- Registration with APEGA is mandatory
- Eligibility for professional registration in other Canadian provinces is required
- Preferred experience in the Oil & Gas industry, particularly gas processing or manufacturing environments
- Hands‑on experience with:
- Pumps, piping, pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers
- Mechanical equipment selection
- Proficiency interpreting P&IDs, line schedules, and piping stress analysis
- Extensive knowledge of:
- ASME B31.3
- ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1
- ASME / ANSI / API Codes and Standards
- Strong understanding of Canadian gas processing industry standards and practices
- International industry exposure is considered an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
